I’m partial to Budget Gourmet Roast Beef Supreme. For the price, you can’t beat the taste. I eat a microwaveable lunch nearly every workday, so I’ve tried a lot of them. I like Stouffer’s lasagna, and Michelina’s Pasta and Vegetables (Noodles, peas and carrots, in a cream sauce.)
In order to further bolster my reputation as a food snob here at the SDMB I am glad to be able to claim that I haven’t eaten a TV Dinner in multiple decades.
This all reminds me very little of when I was eight years old;
My mother was a very capable travel agent and had sold so many flights on SAS (Scandinavian Airline Systems) that they offered her a free round trip ticket back home to Denmark. My father, being a total stick in the mud, didn’t feel like having a second honeymoon with his own wife so my mother went by herself.
What did we eat that entire summer? You’ve got it! TV dinners. I can remember how blessed we felt when we would get Swanson’s brand instead of stinking Banquet. If I never see another Salisbury Steak in my entire life it will be too soon. The stack of foil trays (that dates this!) was several feet tall before my mother got back.
The sickest thing of all is that my father could actually cook pretty well, he just didn’t want to put out the effort for his own children.
Oh, and to answer your question;
Swanson’s Fried Shrimp Dinner.
Un-healthy: Swanson’s “Hungry-Man” fried chicken (mmm salty goodness)
quasi-healthy: “Smart One’s” Penne Pollo (pasta, chicken, broccoli and tomatoes in a mustard? cream sauce.)
Michelina’s lifestyle chicken and rice.
Very tasty and not to expensive.
mmmm…TV dinners. Now you’re talking my language. No offense, Emeril, your show is great, but I’m all thumbs in the kitchen, except for the microwave.
