What's your longest association with a single professional?

By this I mean, what’s the longest you have seen a doctor/dentist/lawyer/hairdresser, without using any other person in that profession? (Except for real emergencies)

In February of 1980 my recently ex-husband and I met at a realtor’s office to sign the papers selling the house we had lived in. Just for the occasion I had by hair cut short in a sort of pageboy bob. I’d worn it long while married, as he liked long hair.

The gal who cut my hair did a great job, and she’s done my hair ever since, for thirty-one years. I shudder at the thought of her wanting to retire, but fortunately she’s about my age and should be able to continue for many more years yet.

When I was a kid the family took our pets to a certain vet for almost thirty years, until he retired.

Got any long term association stories to tell?

I guess that that would be my Realtor®. I’ve bought two houses with him as my buyer’s agent. That goes back to 1998. I should give him a call; he was a cool dude.

I’m too transient to have those types of relationships. Hell, the only reason I’ve been with my current employer just shy of 11 years is because we have the opportunity to change jobs (in fact, it’s encouraged). In fact my next change becomes effective in July, pretty much just as soon as my work visa for the foreign country arrives.

I’ve been using the same solicitor since I bought my first property 25 years ago.

I’ve used the same mechanic for over 25 years. I have followed him through 3 counties, at least five different shops and have had my car towed 75 miles to his shop. Darrell rocks:).

I’ve been seeing my hairdresser (who was a personal friend first) for 17 years. Only person I would trust.

I used the same dentist from my first dental visit (too young to remember what age) until I was 18. (Of course, I didn’t pick him.)

I have two insurance agents:

One who handles my auto and homeowner’s insurance; I’ve been with him for 22 years.

The other handles my life insurance, and financial planning. I’ve been with him for 20 years (but he’s retiring this year, and putting my account with one of the younger guys in his office).

Our family doctor happened to be my godfather as well. “Uncle” Allen retired from active practice when I was 20, so 20 years for me.

Same doctor for about 13 years.

I have been with the same doctor for 22 years. My mother has been seeing hers for almost 40. I have been going to the same dentist for 29 years. I recently changed hairdressers after 20 years. I am 33 years old.

I went to my pediatrician from birth to 19.

I’ve actually had my hairdresser longer than my pediatrician now. Since I was 12, so that would be 20 years.

This thread brought to my attention that I’ve changed my barber, lawyer, realtor and dentist in recent years.

I guess my family doctor. He’s way too happy to push drugs on you, but if you know how to handle him, he’s great. I’ve been with him…15 years? There was grey period where I went back and forth between him and my pediatrician.

I saw the same Psychiatrist weekly, then bi-weekly, then monthly, for seventeen years.

Edit: had my Income Taxes prepared by the same professional for 23 years, but since he was my Dad I don’t know if it counts.

Same optometrist for about 22 years (spouse and I are both blind as bats without our contacts). Same doctor for about 15 (spouse has had same doctor for about 20). Same dental office (though not the same dentist–one retired and another one picked up in his place) for around 20 years.

I’ve been seeing the same vet practice for 26 years, but the old vet died in a plane crash maybe 18 years ago.

I’ve seen the same dentist for, mmm, 20 years? And the same doctor for 11.

I’ve been seeing the same waitress at Labrasca’s Pizza since I was a fetus, so let’s say 32 years. I think she wins!

Heh. Didn’t think of that. We’ve been going to the same pizza joint every week (moving around a bit–it’s a small local chain so we switched venues when we moved, but they’re all owned by the same folks) for…20 years now.

From my delivery in 1958 until my college entrance physical in 1976, our family MD was the same, so 18+ years with him.

My wife and I have had the same regular mail carrier for the 13 years we’ve owned our house. (I grew up two streets away and Gerry delivered mail to my parents’ house, too, but I might have moved out of there before he started that route. In any case, that wouldn’t have been continuous.)

My wife, mother-in-law and sister-in-law have followed the same hair dresser around for maybe 25 years.

I had been seeing the same hairdresser for c. 25+ years-first the original owner (a male), and then his former assistant who bought the business from him c. 1992. Fast forward to this year when I make an appointment and “Pat” not only is not available, but sold the place without any warning. The new woman did a horrible job, and I haven’t been back since January.

That would be my dentist. I’m seeing the same dentist I did when I was about 7. So 30 yrs.

The same guy cut my hair for 20 years. Stopped going for a variety of reasons, most of them clustering around price and convenience.
