INXJ here. This is from one of the older, and more in-depth tests, done by a psychologist. And it’s not really a down the middle thing, it’s more an absolutely both. I strongly value both logical outcome and emotional outcome, and will not make decisions without considering both.
It’s possible that I’m more “T” at work, but then there is far less emotional input or fallout for most work decisions. When I’m in “Manager” mode though, I’m always looking for ways to include positive emotional outcome, and if an employee is fragile, this may take precedence.
Likewise, I may be more “F” at home, or it may be that home is mostly about interpersonal relationships, and providing emotional security for the Celtling, so it’s perfectly* logical* that emotion should drive more of those decisions.
More modern tests, and the shorter ones, will try to force me into one category or another, but checking the raw score I generally find that I am 1 or 2 points away from center at most.
My favorite MBTI explanation is this one, which makes me equal parts Obi-Wan and Palpatine. Yeah, that fits.
