The Dead Center. If I had to elaborate, perhaps a tad to the left on social and to the right on fiscal.

I’m sick of partisanship. I’m a huge fan of federalism. I want to run for high political office some day.
1.) Democrat, only because they’re the lesser of two evils. In the UK I was a Lib-Dem.
2.) Born in Melbourne, Aus; raised in London; living in Massachusetts for about 4 years
3.) A good long way left on center on both social and fiscal scales. The online tests show me as off-the-charts on both, but I really don’t think I’m THAT far.
4.) I think many of Europe’s socialist practices are beneficial. I think the American public fear change a lot, even if it is for the best. Michael Moore is a generally agreeable bloke. Howard Zinn is brilliant. Noam Chomsky is a bit too erudite and alienated from the common folk, but his ideas are very good.

Where you feel you stand in the overall political spectrum (center, left of center, etc.)?
Economic: Provisional conservative (balanced budget, don’t make unsupported projections about forthcoming revenues, etc), but supporter of govt programs as social policy (i.e., do not assume the market will address all needs of its own accord), and eventually anarchist (would like to ditch the entire money system); Macropolitics: globalist (would like to see an end to nationalist conflicts, would like a world government under ideal circumstances), yet decentralist (believe initiative and authority needs to be centered at lowest, most local level possible for any issue/task), and eventually anarchist (would like to ditch the hierarchy of people over other people entirely); Social politics: individualist free-will proponent (maximum individual freedom, minimal government restriction on individual behaviors and choices), and eventually anarchist. -
Miscellaneous comments, if necessary (e.g., you’re a right-winger, but you’re in favor of legalizing the use of crack-cocaine on every third Tuesday)

I thought about including a question about who you want to win in the upcoming election, but with it still months away I figured that some minds might wind up being changed by then making some responses void. If you really want to put down your pick for Prez just dump it in four.
I would like to see Kerry beat Bush in '04. If Edwards gets the nomination I would like to see Edwards beat Bush in '04. If Al Sharpton gets the Democratic nomination somehow I would like to see Sharpton beat Bush in '04. If the Democratic party decides to fold up shop and offers no candidate in '04, I would support Ralph Nader, Pat Buchanan, Lyndon LaRouche, David Duke, the corpse of Richard Nixon, and/or the Antichrist if they were on the ballot running against Bush in '04.

Political Spectrum- mostly centrist with liberal leanings in fiscal and social matters, a liberal hawk on foreign policy.

others- I believe in Liberal Democracy, which means for me focus on the freedom, dignity, actualization and responsibility of the individual. Hate fascism, totalitarianism, communism, Marxism, socialism, corporatism, fundementalism, economic exploitation. I grudgingly believe that you have to some controls and guidance in a free market system to prevent the tyranny of centralized wealth. I believe that the best economy is the one that allows the greatest participation by the largest amount of people, which basically translates to decentralized capitalism centered on small businesses and employee owned companies. Support universal health care, gay marriages, enviromentalism, ending the war on drugs. I despise Chomsky and Zinn, like Al Franken, Fared Zakaria, Samuel Hunntington. I was a big Clark fan and am now torn between Kerry and Edwards. I think Bush is a real codpiece.
- Republican party
- USA
- I think that I’m pretty moderate. I lean left for social issues, but right for mostly everything else.
- Anti-death penalty, against gun control, think we waste too many resources on the drug war, and still undecided about a lot of other issues. Disagreed with the Iraq war, dislike the Patriot Act, think abstinence sex education is useless, think gay marriage should be legalized (but I’m honestly wondering why the government has dominion over marriage at all right now). I have not decided who I will vote for in the coming election, but it will not be Bush. Oh, yeah, and we need to do something about making public transit useful and affordable.
Registered as Republican (I was a conservative when I was 18)

Government is merely another expression of the instinctive human drive for dominance. Government exists to increase the power of those who have influence in government. Political affiliations are nothing more than public relations schemes, intended to help control the public by influencing their thinking.
I do not vote, because I see no meaningful difference between one political organization and another. They all see us as nothing more than tools to be used in whatever way best benefits them. Asking me to pick a style of tyranny is like asking whether I’d rather be whipped and then beaten, or beaten and then whipped.
I fully acknowledge that I am no better than they are. Given power, I, too, would seek to maximize it, the better to protect myself and enhance my own enjoyment of life.
The world runs by the law of the jungle, and we believe this is evil only because we aren’t the tigers.
- What political party you’re a member of (if any)
None. I belonged to the liberterian party for about a year, but then my finaces took a dive and stopped paying the dues. Though I still get mail from organizations who I’ve stopped paying the dues to, sending me membership cards, so maybe I’m still a member.
- What country you’re from (to differentiate similarly named parties in different countries)
The USA.
- Where you feel you stand in the overall political spectrum (center, left of center, etc.)?
I consider myself Center-Liberation leaning right on some issues. I was once a rush-limbaugh dittohead, fundie conserative, but moved left over the years for various reasons. Right now now I’m pretty centerist, because I don’t like the far right, but the left pisses me off pretty bad at times and certain issues are keeping me from migrating leftwards. I’ve also noticed the closer you move to the extremes, the more you find that the stances only really work under ideal conditions and both sides increasingly get wrapped up in a “I’m right and your wrong” mentality(It’s disturbing to find liberals who pride themselves on being “tolerant” but only of people who hold leftist viewpoints. People to the right are “facists” or “rednecks” and thus don’t deserve the same consideration. There’s the opposite, conseratives who do the same, but drop the premise of being tolerant at all). I’ve seen huge amounts of sheer hate and ignorance coming from both sides.
- Miscellaneous comments, if necessary (e.g., you’re a right-winger, but you’re in favor of legalizing the use of crack-cocaine on every third Tuesday)
Socially: Very pro-gun rights, though not as active as I used to be. Believe the drug war is a massive waste of time, money, energy and jail space and drugs should be regulated like tobacco, alcohol, etc. If someone commits a crime because of it, send them to jail, perhaps increase their sentence, but quit putting people in jail just for posession. All for gays getting married. Anti-death penalty, and believe that rehabilitation should be employed when pratical(but if they aren’t going to be rehabiltated, lock them up for as long as it takes). Believe strongly in education and public works, but think this should be less about throwing money at it then actually trying to make them work. Don’t like abortion, but believe it should be legal(and feel that people who don’t like guns should adopt a similar attitude. You don’t like them? Don’t get one and leave mine alone).
Feel that Affirmitive action should be phased out. Believe in a strong, revelent military, but not so much in interventionism. Believed afganistan was worth it, but Iraq could easily have waited and that for the most part, the military should not be engaged except where it’s truley needed(Afganistan and Korea). Feel the war on terror otherwise has been handled decently enough, other then the Iraq occupation(The war went great, even if it shouldn’t have happened, but the occupation leaves much to be desired. However, now that we are there, we need to see the thing through). Am not so much concerned with Guatamo, other then the fact I feel that if the government feels these guys are definatly terrorists, they should have no problem finding evidence to charge them with. Holding them indefinatly is NOT a good thing for anybody. Put them on trial or let them loose.
Economically: I Don’t believe that the government should be propping up businesses and engaging in corporate welfare, but also not particulary big on restrictions either. All for anti-trust and monopoly laws, but not so much for other laws such as ergonomics laws. Do not believe the rich should be taxed too much just for being rich(Sorry, I don’t subscribe to the marxist belief that the all the rich got that way by robbing the poor).
Not againest welfare, but feel that the utmost steps should be taken to make sure it isn’t abused and that it’s goal should be to help people support themselves if possible. I’m not so much againest the idea of a comphresive health care system, more of the fact that we have huge governmnet programs NOW that aren’t working and shouldn’t be trying to create bigger ones until we can figure out. Focus on fixing Social Security and Medicare(and that does not mean just keep throwing more money at it) and then I’ll listen to ideas of a universal health plan.
Big on finaicial responsibility and that’s one place Bush has really pissed me off(the other things being the anti-gay marriage amendment and the padilla/gitmo situation) . Damnit, the rest of us have to balance our budgets and the government should as well.
Election 2004
Feel rather in a bind this election, considering I don’t hate bush and frankly cannot understand the sheer hatred of the left for the man, but I don’t like the guy either and have mostly ambievlent about him other then subjects I mentioned that have rather pissed me off against him. Also the fact the guy who campaigned on “bringing diginity to the white house” is just as much as a politician and whore as any other we’ve had. I don’t fault him much for the economy because it was already on the way down when Clinton was in office and 9/11 hurt it badly. There was going to be something akin to the patriot act and homeland security no matter what, because people were screaming their heads off after 9/11 about keeping terrorists out.
But I don't like Kerry either. I disagree with him on a number of policy issues, find that he waffles a lot on his past, and bringing up his war record at every turn is getting on my nerves. Damnit man, we know you are a war hero! You served your country and we appreciate that. However, "I served in vietnam" is not the answer to every question and at this point I don't give a shit what Kerry or Bush did during Vietnam. It was annoying when McCain did it and now it's annoying when you do it. I care more about your voting record, and more importantly, how do you plan to fix: a.) The economy? b.) The Terrorism issue? c.) The national debt? How are you going to create these jobs? How are you going to get rid of the national debt? "I am not bush" holds no water with me, considering I don't consider Bush to be evil(my definition of evil goes a bit beyond disagreeing on policy and issues). I don't know if he is indeed stupid, because I've never met the man and the media does not really give an accurate picture about the man as regards to his intelligence. I can see he's a horrible speechmaker but that tells me nothing about how smart he is. People will see what the want to see, I guess.
I’m tempted to vote for Cthulhu, or Groucho or whoever the liberaterian candidate is because I find niether particulary platable and the scaremongering on both sides can be sickening at times.(Certain liberals:“Bush is going to destroy the world and turn the US into facist theocracy” Certain Conservatives: “Kerry is going to turn the US into a communist nanny-state and outlaw religion while letting muslims rape your kids”).
Sorry, that turned into a little bit of a rant, didn’t it?

I’ve been a registered Republican for over twenty years, which probably surprises some of the people who’ve read my political posts. -

Where you feel you stand in the overall political spectrum (center, left of center, etc.)?
I consider myself a moderate.
I am a Green Party member from the United States of Amerika, as many of my political heroes including Abbie Hoffman would spell it.
I am generally far left of center on most issues. One issue that I am not necessarily in synch with most lefties on is capital punishment. It is not something that I necessarily feel good about, but some people IMO just need to be taken down. I have seen and heard too many stories of people (all too often men, but sometimes women) who just will not change their violent and controlling behavior. I guess I sort of see them much like rabid dogs, who also must be put down for the safety of society. As I say, this is a difficult issue for me. I am all in favor of giving people a chance to change, but if they will not then IMO capital punishment is cheaper than keeping them in prison for life which would be the only possible alternative.

Pro-choice, pro-death penalty, anti-affirmative action, pro-capitalism, anti-environmentalist whackos, anti-animal rights, anti-any involvement of the federal government in the idea of gay marriage (the Supreme Court should not establish it, the Constitutional amendment currently suggested should not be passed or ratified), pro-nuclear, pro-legalization of marijuana but not dumb enough to think it is going to do much good as medicine, pro-limited government in general, pro-flat tax, anti-deficit spending, technophilic, and a hundred other positions that guarantee I will never be elected to public office.
