Me too.
2 for 4 in campaigns worked in.
But I’m on a winning streak in both!
Me too.
2 for 4 in campaigns worked in.
But I’m on a winning streak in both!
Exactly this.
1984—Reagan—won
1988—Bush—won
1992—Clinton—won
1996—Dole—lost
2000—Bush—won
2004—Kerry—lost
2008—McCain—lost
2012—Romney—lost
Overall 4-4
I have never voted for a loser in the US Presidential elections.
My winners are:
Clinton '96
Bush '04
Obama '12
(voted Buchanan in '00, missed '08)
8 out of 11. Used to be a Republican but, unable to stomach their transition, am now a GDI.
1980: John Anderson (independent) (lost to Reagan)
1984: Reagan - won
1988: Bush - won
1992: Bush (lost to Clinton)
1996: Dole (lost to Clinton)
2000: Bush - won
2004: Bush - won
2008: McCain (lost to Obama)
2012: Romney (lost to Obama)
I’m 4 out of 9.
4 out of 8 for me. Exactly this, except I neglected to vote in '84.
I’m batting .500
1984 - Mondale lost
1988 - Dukakis lost
1992 - Clinton won
1996 - Clinton won
2000- Gore lost
2004 - Kerry lost
2008 - Obama won
2012 - Obama won
I notice that for most intelligent Dopers, this question translates as “How old are you?”
I’m about as old as Colibri, but was out-of-country and “abstained” on some of these elections.
1992 - Clinton won
1996 - Clinton won
2000- Gore lost
2004 - Kerry lost
2008 - Obama won
2012 - Obama won
So 4-2
Oh man, not me. I lived in Cook County, IL all the time I was a Republican and then moved to Tennessee about the same time I shifted left. So I’ve always been out of sync. Although for a few years I was in a district with a blue-dog Democrate in Congress and we had a Dem governor for a little while.
2 for 2.
1976 Can’t remember (n/a)
1980 Reagan (won)
1984 Reagan (won)
1988 Bush (won)
1992 Bush (lost)
1996 Clinton (won)
2000 Bush (won)
2004 Kerry (lost)
2008 Obama (won)
2012 Obama (won)
7 for 9 (but voted in 10)
Wargamer and paintcharge are due to pick consecutive losers.
1996 - voted Dole. (Loss.)
2000 - voted Gore. (Loss.)
2004 - voted Kerry. (Loss.)
2008 - voted Obama. (Win.)
2012 - voted Obama. (Win.)
So 3-2. Wow, until looking at it this way, I didn’t realize that Obama is the only winner I’ve ever voted for.
1996 voted Clinton (won)
2000 voted Gore (lost)
2004 voted Kerry (lost)
2008 voted Obama (won)
2012 voted Obama (won)
3-2.
Out of 12 elections, I voted for only 4 winners (Clinton and Obama).
72 McGovern (lost)
76 Write in for Eugene McCarthy (lost)
80 John Anderson (lost) (I was not a big fan of Jimmy Carter).
84 Mondale (lost)
88 Dukakis (lost)
92 Clinton (won)
96 Clinton (won)
2000 Gore (lost)
2004 Kerry (lost)
2008 Obama (won)
2012 Obama (won)
Let’s see here…
2000: Ralph Nader (lost)
2004: Kerry, I assume. I don’t have strong memories of this one, but I sure as hell didn’t vote for Bush and I learned my lesson about Nader in 2000. (lost)
2008: Obama (won)
2012: Gary Johnson (lost). Having moved to New York (from Ohio), I now have the luxury of voting for third party candidates when it suits me to do so, since my vote doesn’t matter anyway. Had I been in Ohio still, I would’ve been forced to vote for Obama again.
Anyway, that gives me a 25% record. I’d bet against me.
