Minimal presence. Mainly to see what my kids are up to. As 30-somethings they’re posting things semi-regularly.
Ditto. (OK, I occasionally click on a link to Twitter, or try to check a Facebook page if it’s the only way to get specific info; though most of the time I can’t get at the info without an account anyway, and I’m not going to get one.)
I’m also on a couple of other message boards; but while definitely alive, they’re less active than this one.
I have a mobile phone. It’s even, theoretically, a smart phone. But it can’t get any apps it didn’t come with; can’t scan a code; doesn’t let me click on a link in a text; and has a screen too small for me to find the browser usable.
However, it doesn’t break if dropped; it doesn’t mind getting wet; and it fits inside the pocket I want to put it in.
I think people active on message boards may skew towards people who don’t do social media.
That’s second to message boards for me; because most of us don’t email each other daily.
I didn’t know either of those things. Thanks!
I have a Facebook account under my real name. I had a LiveJournal account as DocCathode. I live in Philly. My mom, sister and sister in law live in Florida. A friend I’ve known since I was 6 or so lives in Texas. FB just makes it much easier to keep in touch and updated with these people. I think all but 2 of my FB posts have been friends only. I am willing to get into debates with people on FB if the cause is right or if I can post cites proving I’m right.
A FB poster posted to a group I belong to about a covention owned and organized by a man who had long been exposed as a sexual harrasser and thief. I posted basically that. She responded “I know (name redacted) personally”. I said “I personally read his confession.” She denied that there was such a confession of that (name redacted) had ever admitted to some of the things I was saying. I posted the text of the confession I had saved from (name redacted)'s own FB page before they deleted it. The poster I was debating threatened to report me for harrassment. I said I was just posting the truth and would continue to do so. She deleted the post I had responded to, leaving one post about the con standing. Another friend reposted the same facts I had been stating. The woman I was debating then deleted all posts mentioning the convention.
Yeah, threaten sanctions and then hide the truth. That’ll convince folks.
You’re pretty much looking at my entire social media presence right now.
Ditto.
I consider this board to be part of my social media presence.
On Facebook I have a larger-than-life presence, as I post memes basically by the hour, as well as status updates and photos whenever I feel the need. I’ll also throw down in political debates with my ignorant-ass cousins who support … well, never mind that. On Twitter, I follow a couple dozen people who sometimes tweet interesting things; I haven’t tweeted something on my own in over a year. I have a LinkedIn profile, but I have never had a reason to participate in anything going on at LinkedIn ever, for any reason. I don’t do TikTok, Tumblr, Instagram, or any of that other stuff.
Lurker, for the most part. Even here.
I have a Snapchat account, an Instagram account, a Facebook account, and my registration here. That’s it for social media. I watch YouTube videos but do not post my own, make comments, or any of that stuff. I simply use the content, not create it.

I use Snapchat for the sole purpose of keeping in contact with one specific person who insists on that being their main communication tool. I’m not a fan of it but since I want to keep in contact with them, I do what I gotta do.
-
My Instagram account I never post to unless Facebook posts for me, which I find annoying as fuck. But there are people who I like to at least have some semblance of contact with and they only use Instagram, so once again I force myself to keep it for that reason.

I post to Facebook fairly infrequently but do check it daily. I don’t particularly like it but I’ve managed to pretty much have the algorithm trained to show me Simpsons memes, funny history memes, cats being stupid pics, and… that’s about it. I post memes once in a while and life updates even rarer. I do however use Messenger daily and have kept Facebook basically to keep access to Messenger.
-
I check the Dope daily, usually several times a day. (I know you said it doesn’t count, but in my world it does). I find the breaking news and follow-along threads to be invaluable and with the exception of Marketplace and Thread Games I spend at least some time in every forum daily. Obviously, I lurk more than I post
I hate the very idea of TikTok with a passion and completely fail to see the appeal and I have never used Reddit, Tumblr or Twitter. If it wasn’t for the fact that there is a scattering of people across the world who I want to stay in touch with and have chosen a disparate selection of social media platforms to use, I wouldn’t have an online presence at all except for here.
I deleted Facebook in January, and haven’t looked back since. Instagram has never really resonated with me, and I am too old for Snapchat and TikTok.
So, my only social media presence is on LinkedIn. I don’t like it much, but it is useful professionally.
