What's your Song of The Day?

Parchman Farm

Can’t get this outa my head. Heard it an hour ago.

Slowly working my way through many of the covers of this song. This one really hooked me, though it is not the original recording by the composer Bukka White.

What’s your Song of The Day ?

That’s a pretty powerful song. Mose Allison is vastly underrated.

Don’t hit me. That’s not the song, just my request.

“Shake it off”, Taylor Swift. It’s an earworm and I have some personal things I need to, well, move past.

See what happens when you kick over rocks? :stuck_out_tongue:

Buddy Holly because of that stupid car commercial. I can tell I’m gonna hate that song soon. Too bad, it’s a nice song.

I woke up from a nap with the song “Everybody Everybody” by Black Box going through my head. I don’t know how it got there, but as in all things, I blame society.

Everybody, everybody, everybody, everybody, doo doo, do do doo doo…

“The Landlord’s Daughter,” from The Wicker Man.

Yesterday it was Big Star - Thirteen. No song in particular today.

Tip o’my hat to the posters who also know and enjoy Mose Allison.

I usually spend all day humming something I heard on my shuffle on the way into work, and today’s no exception. Today it’s Matchbox Blues done by Albert King w/SRV.

For Parchman Farm, the one I grew up with, and the first that comes to mind is Blue Cheer’s (misspelled) version that’s another generation away, and sounds as if they’d never heard the Bukka White version. Instead, it seems like they took the Allison version and acid.

If you’re asking what’s invading my head when I’m not listening to something else today, it’s Telegram Sam. Either the T. Rex original or the Bauhaus remake (which is the one I heard first).

I’ll have you know that I give nothing a chance. Ask my friends, I’m a picky bitch*.

I had to listen to that twice in a row, just to keep enjoying myself. Thankya. Probably gonna listen again.

*I mean this in the non-gender specific manner, unrelated even to dogs except by homonym. It’s to mean someone who can’t be satisified.

My song of the day is The Door Into Summer

That would have to be Sugar Sugar by the Archies.

“Someone Like Me” never really listened to it closely before. Why is the air so dusty?

I’ve had songs from Repo! The Genetic Opera stuck in my head, the past few days… Things You See in a Graveyard, Mark it Up, Zydrate Anatomy, At the Opera Tonight…

But today, it’s Night Surgeon. (I’d have linked the actual scene from the movie, which has better mixing (you can actually hear the Genterns), but it’s one of the gory songs.)

I recently got hold of a Nina Simone compilation, and have been obsessively grooving on Sinnerman.

Saw Wilco last week at Red Rocks. Jesus Etc. has been rattling around my brain ever since then.

I have only one album of Allison’s vocal tunes, which I haven’t listened to in years. But he’s a sideman on several of my live recordings of NYC combos from the late 50s to the early 60s, usually fronted by hornmen of the caliber of Zoot Sims and Joe Wilder and Art Cohn and Buck Clayton.

He’s no Dodo Marmarosa, but he’s given me a lot of pleasure over the years.
