What's Your Username Mean?

mine is based on the Robert Jordan series of books ‘The Wheel of Time’…Yurian Stonebow was a false messiah who could use this evil- tainted magic that allowed him to kick serious ass…until he went mad and died. I forget whether hje got killed, or was captured, cut off from the Power, and committed suicide.

anyway, it’s been my handle on chats/bbs since i got online almost 6 years ago, and i’ve kept it since it’s easy to remember, and i like the sound of it. it’s also the handle i had when i met my wife, and every once in a whle, someone in a WOT chat will go 'omg, you’re THAT stonebow? you met your wife online, right? wow!

anyway, there it goes.

A character from “…Buckaroo Banzai…” (the book, not the movie). A clue to this is given in my “Location:” (I think there are others on the board from the same place).

She had a crush on Rawhide, and he’s always been my favorite (from both the book and the movie).

I picked mine because I sing alto. I thought it was the most obvious thing in the world, but since not everyone thinks of singing right off and the name ends in O people tend to assume I’m male. I’m not, I 'm female–if I were male I’d be a countertenor.

Hey Honey… My nickname is Honey too - but you got there before me :stuck_out_tongue:

My real name is acutally… ehhhhhh oops I forgot

New Doper and first-time poster here! As for my name, “HBby” is short for “HeartBaby,” 'cause I was born on Valentine’s Day.

my nick comes from about a year ago. i use the same user name for just about every forum i register for. anyway i wanted something easy to remember. whats easier then looking at the title bar for your user name? anyway i use it out of habbit now. by the way i use mozilla now.

My name is pretty self explanatory too, a
“puzzling mystery”. I was named that by friends a long time ago and it just stuck. It’s usually shortened to just ‘enigma’.

And, although I’m a newbie here too, welcome to the boards!

It’s nice to meet a fellow Honey. But, who’s Rhino?

I have probably said this before in another thread, but here I go again. I used to use the nick geek_at_work, but found it too boring, so I went with one of my favourite characters in HHGG.

Ford’s ability to fly in the face of convention, pull enormously stupid stunts, staying absolutely cool despite being somewhat neurotic are all traits I admire IRL. Plus he has an electronic thumb… what could be cooler than that?

I should state that I used the nick geek_at_work at other forums… the way I worded it sounded like I might be a sock. :frowning:

It means
summertime

:stuck_out_tongue:

Some of these names are pretty funny.

Alas I wish I were more creative, but my username is self explanatory…

How so? You regularly bathe with poultry? Live poultry? Why? What? Eh?

What do you mean? I swim with chickens.

Most chicken farms are located next to bodies of water so that the chicken waste can runoff into the water thus eliminating the odor. It is very gross and probably not the best thing for chicken health (or the health of anyone who happens to use that water for anyone.) As a matter of fact I believe Maryland had a chickshit water crisis a few years back- fishteria? The fish in the Potomac started developing large open sores. Very gross.

In any event, if the chickens were to ever escape their cramped quarters (and believe me if you’ve ever seen a chicken farm you’d know what I was talking about- they are completely disgusting…but dammit, I still love KFC nonetheless) they’d either have to stage a frontal assault on Joe Farmer or try a tactical retreat through the feces filled body of water. Naturally chickens do not prefer confrontation so they choose to swim (those that actually want to escape that is, most chickens are content to become fried.) So once they reach that body of water they must swim, and less you don’t know chickens are not very good swimmers- if they swim at all.

So I lay in waiting… waiting to swim with chickens…

See, self explanatory…

I’ve been meaning to answer one of these threads, but I had been waiting until I thought of something clever. I give up.

Welcome, HBby. One of my kids was born on Father’s Day, which was apropo, also.

I’m stunned by the number of characters from books I’ve read, but whose connection I didn’t draw. Only FordPrefect jumped out at me. I guess it is a good thing I didn’t recall Spaceman Spiff. Stonebow, you took your name 6 years ago?! Jordan is still writing that series! I’ve been reading it to my girls. With how busy we are, I’m not reading them much faster than he is writing them.

Mangetout is a little too clever and quick witted for me!

diminuative for Elf, the mythical creature

vibrotronica, The Polisher, and Confusatron were the never seen (and probably imaginary) villians in my favorite episode(s) of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, “Brilliant Number One” and “Brilliant Number Two”, with guest stars Peter Fonda and 2002 SDMB Ignorance Fighter of the Year "Battlin’ " Buzz Aldrin. Please tell me that someone out there has seen this episode and likes it as much as i do!

(Please note that in the transcript given in the first link, the character’s name is spelled “Vibratronica”. Please further note that I don’t give a shit.)

I don’t know what my name means. I thought of it after my first choice was taken, and before I htough of what my name should really be. I used to be Strider way back when I first got online (ten years ago or so, back when chat rooms were telnet’ed to via Unix prompts  ), but then stayed away from the whole online social thing for a long time. Of course now that name is taken EVERYWHERE. It was mine first dammit!

My name should really be Buzz Lightyear though, since I’m told I look and act like him by a few friends…

flybynight seemed sort of dark and mysterious, and I guess that sounded good to me at the time. The thing I hate about my name is that everytime I think about it I get this line from a Rush song stuck in my head. That sure as heck wasn’t my intention! :smack:
