Chariot endorsement.
My little quickie shopping trip got a tad pricy. But there were good sales!!! Like butter for $1.99/lb! And a sale on London broil, and ham steaks. And even milk! We’re all stocked up for a while, so yay! And there was enough space in the freezer, so double yay!
It was about 37° when I got up this morning, but it’s dropped to 32° and really windy! They’ve raised tonight’s forecast low out of the single digit range, which suits me fine. Still, it looks like another cold week ahead. Winter sucks.
N.O.L. has been et. Leftover poke roast and sweet N.O.T. from Sattidy. One of my lunch buddies shared his pickled asparagus. YUM! Pickled in dill and garlic with a little sump’n to give it a kick. I foresee a trip to Sam’s Club to get some pickled asparagus.
Ok, back to irk.
World’s best mechanic just came and picked up my car for its annual inspection and regular oil change. He picked it up because his waiting room/office is up a step and the doorway is just a teeny bit too narrow for Jazzy.
He’s been my mechanic for over 20 years, this is the fourth car I’ve trusted to him. The hell with manufacturers’ warranties. I trust this guy and his team to not loosen something in order to get me back in a week later and charge me more money. The mechanic I used before this guy did that, and I reported him to the BBB. He’s no longer in business. I was one of a couple dozen complainants.
Anyway, Pete and the team at TLC Auto and Truck Repair are Teh Awesome!
Interview went pretty decent- I have a 2 hour trial on Wednesday.
I’m a bit more positive about it after meeting the manager, she seemed really nice. It’d be a pretty crazy start though if I did get it- the shop’s just opening, with almost all new staff… In an airport, so there’s no easing in to any of it.
It’s still a bit of a long drive though… Though that will be worth it to not have to deal with that terrible security company ever again. It’ll have things like breaks! Paid holidays! Legal gaps between shifts! No more drunks (and if there are any, they’re an SEP)! I’d make more money than I’d get on benefits!
Yay! No snow last night.
I, too, spent the blizzard of ‘78 in the Hoosier state. My dad got stuck about ten miles from home after being released from his second shift factory job. Fortunately, he was about half a mile from some friends’ dairy farm and he stayed there and helped with chores and the like.
Meanwhile, Mom was stuck at home with just us kids until my cousin Mike showed up at the door. He, too, had gotten stuck and it was a short walk to our house. He crashed on the couch until we got plowed out. Mom tsked-tsked about him not being dressed warmly enough.
After the roads got plowed, but before we returned to school, Dad had to make a delivery to Middlebury for his side business. I went with him and was amazed at the 12 foot drifts in some places.
I didn’t think you were THAT ancient.
Day off, plan to totally vegetate unless I’m actually in the mood to do something that passes for productivity.
I have very little snow experience, since I grew up on the West Coast. I can think of ONE time I experienced significant snow, and that wasn’t much above my ankle depth (as an adult).
Nuts yay! Shall we cross appropriate/inappropriate appendages? Knowin’ it would be steady irk with benies are huge pluses!
rosie ain’t it great to know you have a reliable, dependable car guy? Also major karma points to world’s best mechanic for bein’ willin’ to come pick up your car.
All this talk about snowstorms makes me want to go out and buy extra “No Snow” signs for insurance. I remember a pretty major (for north Jawja) snow in January 1973. I was a wee freshman in kollege and we slid down a big hill on dinin’ hall trays. WHEE!!! The people who had the most fun were some folks from Flahrduh who had never seen snow before.
I’ll give a big AMEN to that!! I picked our car guys because I’d seen their ad on TV and they were close. We’ve been taking our cars there at least 8 years and I trust them absolutely. If they tell me something needs to be done, then it does. And if they think it can wait till the next visit, I know they’re not lying to me. I should bake them some cookies…
I cleaned the pellet stove for the last time this year. When we burn these last 9 bags of pellets, I’m going to call some pros to give it a proper cleaning. We’ve run it 3 winters, 6 tons of pellets total, and it’s overdue for a good once-over. So probably in a couple of weeks, we’ll get that done.
I’ve decided supper will be ham, cabbage, peas-n-carrots, and crescent rolls. I may bake some brownies, too. Because I’m nice, dammit!
Happy Moanday y’all.
Last week I was back in La-la land for meetings. This week I return for a few days. Then I’m back overnight, then it’s off to Barcelona Spain for a week. Oy. I enjoy travelling, but it seems to be feast or famine. I’d like something in between. Please.
Snow stories. Hmmm.
A few years ago, when we were living in MO, land of snow and wind vortices, there was one night where we had freezing rain overnight, followed by snow. Glancing outside it looked like 2-4 inches of powder. No biggie. Off we go. We made it to the end of the street, out onto the highway, where we came upon a multi-car pileup, and several more cars into the trees. Ice was now obviously everywhere.
I carefully pulled a 3-point turn on the highway (no-one was coming through the other way), then quickly determined I wasn’t getting the mom-van back up that extremely gentle incline on the road to my house. So I went down the hill the other way, parked in front of someone’s house far enough from the road that (hopefully) no one was careening off the ice into the car, and the kids and I walked home. A few hours later we got a text that school was closed due to road conditions.
Howdy from da cave! Today was definitely Moanday and I’m so glad it’s over! Four more to go. I called the pretty good Chinese place just down the road from da cave before I left irk and ordered up some swiped General’s dindin, with some aig drop soup and extra aig rolls. We’s both stuffded and I have some to take to irk for N.O.L. tomorrow. OYKW has to go to Macon, Jawja for a meetin’ tomorrow, poor thing. He had the option of drivin’ on up and stayin’ the night but decided he’d rather stay here at da cave tonight and drive up bein’ as it’s just a two hour drive and he doesn’t have to be there until ten tomorrow mornin’. So, bein’ ever the sainted sweetheart that I am, I will make him a good brekkie in the mornin’ so’s he’s all fueled up. <insert halo smiley here>
sunny I say it’s a good thing the skool sent y’all that text, cause up until then, your kidlets were truants!
I killded the MMP!
I shall go and mourn upon the bed while watchin’ teevee until sleepy time. Or maybe snuggle and watch teevee until sleepy time. I’m not all that remorseful.
Nitey Nite Y’all!
Supper has been ingested. WKRP is about to come on, so I shall go recline. *** MWAH!!***
I had spaghetti for supper. yay
Work opened late on account of the sleety roads, then they kicked us all out early. Thus, I took a Monday afternoon nap!! Tonight has been deemed to be Taco Night, and so prep shall commence shortly, only these plants ain’t killin’ those zombies all by themselves so I’ve got some extremely important things to do before fixing dinner.
Good luck!!! Um, what’s an SEP, and do I want or need one of my very own?
Growing up in MN means I have lots and lots of snow stories. But today, we had sun and -14F in the morning and +20 and clouds in the afternoon. Not much snow this winter here, yet. Parts south and east keep grabbing it all before it can fall here. We could use a bit more to set us up for farming this spring, if you don’t mind.
As kids we used to jump off the roof into snow piles whenever we had a good blizzard, but we were only allowed to jump off the single story part of the roof. My cousins though, got to climb out their second story window and jump down to catch the rope line that would lead them to the barn. Once at the barn, two of them would set to work milking the cows and the others would start working on plowing and shoveling paths out to the road and back to the house so they could get the doors open and normal life could commence. It sounded so glamorous to my 8-year-old self. It still kinda does.
I think in this context, that means “Someone Else’s Problem”.
It’s too damn cold here, and there’s too much damn snow. I’m tired of bundling up to go outside. I’m tired of two-hour delays, snow days, and holidays that turn into snow day make-ups. I’m just over winter and ready for spring.
Blurf.
Thou must count to three, that being the current temperature. Three shall be the number of the degrees and the number of the degrees shall be three. Four shalt thou not wish for, neither shalt thou consider two, excepting that it could get-eth colder. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the degrees, be reached, then selleth some local real estste to thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall freeze their collective gonads off. That is all.
