Wheel mouse randomly clicks all the bottons when you move it. WTF?

My laptop was having lots of errors and problems so I used the restore disk to ‘start over’.

I have a Microsoft wheel mouse that I have been using, after the restoration it was automatically detected and the drivers where installed. But all the buttons randomly click every time you move the mouse  . It is just about impossible to do anything with context menus (right click) poping up like crazy. I managed to change the wheel button to <shift>, it was ‘open windows explorer’ and I would end up with dozens of windows explorer windows open :smack: .

Of course this problem is not covered in any of the ‘help’ programs or ‘FAQs’. I am running windows 98 on a Gateway laptop and the built in pointing device is disabled. The mouse is plugged into the ‘mouse port’, not the one with all the pins that you use an adapter for.

I had lots of problems with the standard MS mouse driver on my XP laptop. I installed a Logitech mouse driver and it works much better than the MS XP driver.

I’m not sure what fees you need to pay to Logitech. You may need to fiddle with the mouse configuration in the Windows control panel.
