Wheel of Time Movie... who's who?

Nuff said. Who plays who, and if you feel like it, why?

I will come back with my list and reply later, as I don’t want to amend my list WHEN somebody posts a better cast for a part then me. I can simply agree with their genius.

So… who’s who?

About 2 years ago, andros and I came up with the definitive list. I can’t find it, or remember much of it.

But I seem to remember leaning toward Patrick Stewart as Thom Merrilin.

And Bob Hoskins as Bayle Domon.

I’ll let andros know this thread is here, maybe he remembers more than I do.

bump

Let’s see.

I didn’t like Stewart as Thom, personally. And Eastwood is a little too old to play Lan.

Damn. It’s been too long since I read the books.

I kinda like Ewan McGregor as Rand al’Thor. And David Carradine as Lews Therin, but he might be too old.
Jerry O’Connell is my pick for Perrin Aybarra, if he can still play 18.
Laura San Giacomo as Moiraine.
Sam Elliot will make a fantastic Thom Merellin.
After seeing Nurse Betty, I think that Renee Zellweger would do a really scary Liandrin.
John Rhys-Davies as Bayle Domon.
Christopher Walken as Ishamael.
Michael Hurst as Sammael.
Kevin Smith (Ares, not Silent Bob) as Rahvin.
Uma Thurman as Lanfear.
Miranda Richardson as Moghedien.
Gary Oldman as Asmodean.
Tim Curry as Padan Fain/Mordeth.
Adrian Paul as al’Lan Mandragoran.
Donald Sutherland as Jaichim Carridin.
The other young characters (Nynaeve, Elayne, Egwene, Mat, Min, Gawyn, Galad, Aviendha, Faile) are harder, as I just don’t know enough young actors.

I’ve always pictured Liv Tyler as Min.
As much as it pains me, Sarah-Michelle Gellar as Elayne.
Natalie Portman as Egwene.
Milla (“Mul-ti-pass”) Jovovitch as Aviendha.

That still leaves Matrim Cauthon, Faile, Gawyn and Galad, Loial, soem of the baddies and most of the Aiel . . . well, it leaves a lot.

(adding to the impressive list up above - some of the casting is BRILLIANT)

Cate Blanchett as Nynaeve.

Leonardo DiCrap-io and Carey Elwes as Gawyn and Galad.

Casey Affleck as Matrim.

Michelle Rodriguez as Faile.
Ya gotta lose Sarah Michelle Gellar - I just don’t see it. Kate Winslet, maybe? Someone less brassy.

I can see someone trying to cast the guy who plays Neelix (or whatever that Voyager cocker-spaniel guy is named as Loial). We must stop them.

Darn.

When I saw this thread, I thought it would be about Wheel of Fish, first seen in the Weird Al Yankovic movie UHF.

Okay, I have thought about it, and here is what I can come up with:

Rand Al’Thor - Jerry O’Connell (thanks to andros for the inspiration)

Matrim Cauthon - James Vanderbeek

Perrin Aybara - Casper Van Dien

Egwene - Katy Holmes

Nynaeve - Shannon Doherty

Lan Mandragoran - Russel Crowe

Elayne - Kirsten Dunst

Gawyn - Carey Elwes

Galad - Leonardo DiCaprio (both of these were spot on, BTW, magdalene)

Rahvin - John Travolta

Myrrdrall (since they all look identical) - Gabriel Byrne.

Loial - Maximus ‘Max’ Sandareskue (the guy from My Giant)

Thom Merrilin - Pat Morita

Bayle Domon - Brendan Gleeson (Hamish from Braveheart)

Aviendha - Milla Jovovich (brilliant choice, andros)

Lanfear - Jessica Alba (Max on Dark Angel)

Sammael - Gary Olman

Padan Fain/Ordieth - Tim Roth

Asmodean - Bruce Campbell (He plays Ash in Army of Darkness, and the thief guy on Hercules the TV series)

Tairen thief catcher guy (what was his name, again?) - Jet Li

Min - Liv Tyler would make a great Min, andros. Perfect.

Siuan Sanche - Salma Hayek (rough tongued fisherman’s daughter from Tear where they are tan complected? Perfect.)

Ba’alzamon/Shai’tan/the Dark One - Nicholas Cage

Liandrin - Renee Zellweger (Again, perfet)

Rhuarc (Aiel Clan chief) - Michael Biehn

Morgase - Sophie Marceau
That’s all the main characters I can remember right now. I haven’t read the books in like a year and a half either. I will amend/add to my list if necessary later.
So… what do you think?

PS - Somehow, I thought there would be more WoT readers here on the Dope. Strange.

Lexicon, I like the Kirsten Dunst over Sarah Michelle, but I’d take Ewan MacGregor over Jerry O’Connell as Rand just for the sheer sex factor. I’d also throw out the name Elijah Wood for Rand - very intense kid.
BUT NO FREAKIN’ JAMES VAN DER BEEK! AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

How about a last freakin’ book before the movie is made…

and I like andross list, except I hate Jerry O’Connel for any character, and I think Perrin needs to be played by someone who can act 18 but look 25, built, dark, and well, hairy? Just the way I picture the fella from the books.

Buffy can’t be Elayne, no way, nu uh! Dunst seems good for that though. Is she prissy enough?

This may seem like a dumb question, but I think the last one I read was Crown of Swords. Have there been any after this? I sold or donated most of my books when I left D.C. (including the big, heavy, Wheel of Time series - I’m sort of regretting that as a long Chicago winter comes on a but I didn’t own the whole series anyway). Clue me in, someone, thanks! Where exactly are we in this story?

Path of Daggers is that latest in the series. As usual, we are waiting forever and a day for the last book.
Can you beleive that I am now 24 and I started reading the series when it first came out…when I was in 8th grade?!

Check out
http://www.wheeloftime.com/books/main.html
for a listing of the first six, and I can tell you that the last two are Crown of Swords and Path of Daggers.

Yeah, Lexicon - I started reading it in about 10th grade (I’m 26). I think I read The Great Hunt first, because that’s what my public library had.

THANKS for the link. I will track down Path of Daggers and commence stalking Robert Jordan for the last book. Are we sure it’s the last book?

Nah. Considering how much the “plot” has advanced in the last two books, I doubt we’ve reached the half-way point.

To answer what I think you meant, it is the most recent book.
But, as Alessan says, there is no way in hell it finishes the overal story. We’re lookin at at least 2 more, most likely 3.

Just what we need.
A neverending series of 4 hour movies.

Well, I don’t think this series of books would make for a good movie, because it’s too damn long.
But I started this because it is fun to talk about, who would make a good who and all that rot.
However, I do think that the WoT would make a great animated series. As long as it’s done well. Like Spawn.
Yeah, that would kick ass.

Hopefully, the effects in the movie would at least rival those of the game. The game? Yes, uses the Unreal engine and is basically Unreal Tournament with lots of magical little figurines and Aes Sedai stalking your every move.

Slythe, neverending series of 4 hour movies? Oy, I don’t think I could handle another 4 books. Jordan had best make the ending clear and soon lest I actually give up on the guy already. I’ve been checking the bookstores every month at least twice just to see if the book has hit the shelves, checked newsgroups every week while at work, and re-read the series twice. I’m 25, and I started reading it in 10th grade myself.

<--------- L O S E R

Soulsling, you’re ahead of me - I gave up after Book 7. The plot was going nowhere very slowly, and I stopped sympathizing with the characters - most of them have turned into arrogant, whining shallow twits, and the few I still like (like Mat and Perrin) have suffered so much abuse by their fellow “heroes” that it became painful to watch.

It’s really too bad. The first five books (especially 2 and 3) were excellent.
