Just curious as to how many different pronunciations are out there for Wheel of time things.
for myself(just a few):
Nynaeve: alternates between Nih NAYVE and NY na eev
Egwene: again, alternates between Ih GWAYNE and Ih GWEEN.
Siun Sanche: Sih WON SAHN chay
Thom: TOM
Asmodean: As MOH dee ehn
Ishamael: Ih SHA mah ehl
Moghedian: Mohg AY dee an
Aiel: ah EEL
Avienda: Ah vee EN dah (though it used to be ah VEEN da)
Aes Sedai: EES SED aye
Amyrlin Seat: AM mer lihn SEET
an’grael, ter an’grael, sa an’grael: An GREEL, TAIR an greel, SAH an greel.
yeah, I know, but even after looking at the correct pronunciations, I couldn’t get the way I always said them out of my head. And the same goes for my friends. As stubborn as a Manetherian
Yup, I’ve had the same problem. Lan’s full name makes me choke and I have the same problems with Egwene all the time. Luckily, after 10,000 some pages, I’ve had plenty of practice.
I’ve always liked AS-moe-dean, though I know that’s not right. My sister and I email each other a lot every time a book comes out, and we’ve taken to combining the names of the resurrected Forsaken, a la …

Halimadean or Morishy (Moridin + Ishamael, which is still speculation on our part, but seems more and more likely).
where do you think Graendal and Masaana are hiding? I’ve heard Altara for the formal, and the White Tower for the latter, but I don’t recall if there’s any validity to the claims.
whelp, will go get the game as soon as I can get my comp fixed.
I think Graendal is Sevanna in the Shaido camp…notice how she collects gai’shain from the nobility and has them wear jewelry.
And she is not Aiel. cite Winter’s Heart p.128
Now I could be mistaken in that I am believing that Granedal is the Forsaken woman who had the large harem of noble love slaves, yes?
Graendel was last seen hiding in Arad Doman under the name of Lady Basene. What she’s up to, we don’t really know.
Mesaana is in the White Tower. We don’t know her secret identity, but Alviarin knows she has a dress with a particular pattern on the hem.
The really interesting one is Semirhage, whom I personally believe is hiding out with the Seanchean and recently (ie in WH) came into posession of the male a’dam.
Yes, that would be Graendal. She also is the one who specialized in psychological warfare.
Now, which of the females had children fighting battles for her? I wanna say Mesaana, but I’m not sure. and have they given any forsaken’s true name besides Asmodean’s and Lanfear’s?
That was indeed Mesaana. I don’t know which names have been revealed in the novels, but there’s a big white book called the “Companion to the Wheel of Time” or something like that that has all of them in it. That’s a helpful book for keeping your Forsaken straight. It was released a few books back, so it’s a little out of date, but it’s still a good resource.
Thanks, Smeghead. I bought the book about a year back, but it’s back home, so my WOT knowledge is becoming sadly lacking.
oops, some name typos:
Anthrax: should be Antrax (a spanking, a spanking!)
Altara: should be Shara(hey, they rhyme.)
speaking of Shara, was re-reading The Shadow Rising, and saw that Alviarin, among others of the White Ajah, brought forth a plan to use gentled males for a breeding program, not unlike the program used in Shara. does this mean that

the Black Ajah not only know of the Shara, but plan to utilize them?
Hmmm. I know the Forsaken definitely know about Shara (two of them - Sammael and Graendel? - discussed the place at one point). I don’t know about the BA. I can’t think of any other evidence besides what you mention, and it’s probably a bit of a stretch just based on that. Jordan tends to go kind of heavy on the foreshadowing…
