When did Dennis Miller become a Republcan?

I remember him being fairly left leaning years back. I welcome him to the fold, but when did this happen?

Maybe Bush promised him a special tax cut for sarcastic comedians if he helped on the campaign trail.

Just a WAG.

…Long about the time he got rich. Being a Repub actually makes economic sense if you are wealthy.

I’d been asking myself this for some time. He got to be too reactionary for my taste and I quit watching his show, which made me sad since I used to be a fan. Looks like he’s just running with it. And here I thought comedy was about attacking the status quo, not actively working to preserve it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Might have something to do with drawing an audience. If he, or his agent, has decided that he’s a more viable commercial property with right-leaning material, he might very well have decided to go where the income is.

It’s job security.

A smart political comedian wants Bush in the White House, simply for the material.

I guess I was asking for it, but is there anyone who is not a sarcastic lefty willing to answer the question?

If you want a non-sarcastic answer, I suppose it might be nothing more than him getting older. People often become more conservative when they get older. Of course, a conservative will say this is the result of life-long learning, but that’s a subject for another debate, I suppose.

My answer wasn’t sarcastic. It is my honest feeling that people who are extremely wealthy are well served by the Repub economic agenda, though almost no one else is. You may interpret my answer as sarcasm, but I see it as a simple recognition of fact.

That’s it.

Miller gets his demotion to the bottom of my list. He’s becoming what he ranted against.

Too much money makes for bad political/social commentary, unless you’re Carlin.

I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, He had a gradual change to the right during most of Clintons presidency basically due to age. Then 9-11 hit and I think he is one of the people it scared the shit out of. He took a huge jump to the right because of it from what I can tell.

Yes, God forbid anyone would become a Republican out of moral and intelectual conviction. It must be because he is now corrupt.

Middle of the road dude checking in.

I saw an interview with Miller a month or two ago (sorry, forget which show…I think maybe something on CNN or MSNBC). He said that his outlook changed as a result of 9/11.

FWIW, here is a meeting between the “old” DM and the "new
DM.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’ve always found him so totally unfunny and found it comforting that he was on the other side of the political fence as well. Now I have to reconsider his funnyness. Is it possible he’s not so bad after all?

I always love the views of people like Evil Captor. “If you ain’t on my side, it’s obvious it’s because you’re evil.” The typical cause of most wars as it turns out.

I don’t recall accusing anyone of being evil here. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

As for my point about Miller, when someone becomes rich and then his views switch to those of a political party that favors the rich over time, well, I suppose it COULD be something other than simple self-interest, but mostly that’s what it is.

Exactly! I mean, look at the Kennedys!

Basically.

Goodness, you mean a person’s political philosophy appears to have changed in the last two decades? Heaven forfend!

Maybe he got religion.
