I started the poll When do you get your news? at the beginning of the week. After 28 voters, a distribution emerged for the morning (between 5 AM and 10 AM).
I wondered: Why don’t more people get their news before 5 AM?
I hope this poll (and the voters) can answer that question.
This poll is anonymous and single choice. Choose the earliest time you get the news. Do not vote with Saturday or Sunday in mind. Vote as you would Monday through Friday. Do you get up in the morning before work and watch the local news at 6 AM? Then vote for 6 AM. Do you get your news at the end of the day from Jay Leno? Then vote for 11 PM. Do you watch CNN when it first goes LIVE? Then for vote for 5 AM? Do you get your news at 4 AM? At 3 AM? 2 AM? 1 AM? Do you get your first news of the day from time.gov?
I first get my news from time.gov. A minute before the day starts/the day ends, I go to time.gov and watch as the time goes to 00:00:00 and meditate for a moment on the beginning of the day. Then I get my news from CNN at 5 AM. At around 6 AM, I get a copy of The New York Times and finish reading it around 7 AM. Then, sometimes, I get my news from ABC World News or NBC Nightly News at around 6 PM.
Zeldar’s poll is showing a good distrubution of results.
My hypothesis for my poll is that some people get their news after noon, some people get their news at 7 AM, some people get their news at 6 AM, some people get their news at 5 AM, and some people get their news before 5 AM.
I agree. Which is why I only spend two hours each day (at the minimum) on getting news. A minute before the day starts/the day ends, I go to time.gov and watch as the time goes to 00:00:00 and meditate for a moment on the beginning of the day. I watch CNN at 5 AM. At around 6 AM I get a copy of The New York Times and finish reading it around 7 AM. That’s two hours and then I have the rest of the day to work or do whatever.
Not only are the news getters asleep, but the newsmakers often are as well. Before 5AM, I wouldn’t expect there to be anything but last nights news. In fact, if I do get news before then, I consider myself to have gotten the news LATE.
Why is that? Intuitively, one would think that news before 5 AM would be considered early. I’m interested in people who get their news in the afternoon, between 12 PM and 6 PM. I’m concerned about people who get their news in the “late” morning, from the morning talk shows and from Good Morning America. Sometimes I’ll watch Good Morning America; however, I do not get my news from Good Morning America.
I get my news from The New York Times which I finish reading at around 7 AM. Before that I get my news from CNN which I watch from 5 AM to 6 AM. Before that I get my news from time.gov when I watch as the time goes to 00:00:00 and meditate for a moment on the beginning of the day.
