I hope to be free of the newbee tag sometime in the next six months or so, but I could be a little over anticipatory.
Newbie is a state of being man, to lose the tag you have to become one with mother board.
egg (has the munchies)
Bah, I have no idea whether or not anyone knows me or recognises my name. (does anyone?)
Oh, I know at least one person recognises it, because she said in a thread that my username reminded her of a drunk bum’s ramblings.
Just like in an “in the same room” group of people, I no longer felt like a newbie when I made some friends here. My first female friend was Shayna and my first male friend was dropzone and I still cherish them both. Should you feel like making the distinction, they are my friends IRL too. One I have spent “in the same room” time with a whole BUNCH (Shayna…love you, my sister!) and one I haven’t (dropzone, and I love him to death too.) So there you go. They are my friends, and I would go to the ends of the earth for either of them if necessary.
Beyond these, there are others. But they were the first.
I do. I remember you because you were in the superpowers by username thread and I tried to come up with something for you. And failed miserably too
I guess I count as a newbie. Not for long though my main goal in life is to start my very own " happy 10,000 posts to flowerchild" thread. When that time comes , you are all invited.
Hi Flowerchild…I missed your welcome thread, so this is my welcome post to you.
May you be happy in this garden. It has thorns, to be sure…but on the whole, it has flowers.
Thank you . Actually , I never got " welcomed " in the first place . So thanx for noticing .
How did you arrive here, honey?
When a Flowerpapa and a Flowermama love each other very much, they have a special way of . . . .
BTW, when you have posted 6,000 times, you are no longer a newbie. (We’re hoping that C K Dexter Haven makes the grade soon.)
Scotticher , What do you mean " where did I come from " ? Did tomndebb answer your question ?
6,000 times? Huh. And after all of these years I thought I’d be a member of the club simply because I’ve been hanging out since April of '99.
But 6,000 posts? Really. Geez.
With whom should I leave a complaint? After all, I’ve never been invited to join a SDMB clique, private organization and/or ultra-secret cabal whose intent it is to rule the world. Don’t tell me that I needed to actually participate to get points!
Good Lord, that’s how I flunked outta school. Sheesh.
Well, I’m glad you cleared that up, tom!
I’m just always curious when I talk to a new member… I wondered how you found this message board. Feel free to ignore my very nosy question if you feel like doing so.
However, the information from tomndebb was very helpful too! Here I thought it was all about birds and bees when instead it is all about flowers. Who knew?
If you care about it you’re a newbie. Just post, nobody cares about a number. Most people lost hundreds of posts after the SDMB winter, nobody really cared.
If you’ve been here long enough that you know never to share a work bathroom with lieu then you are no longer a newbie.
Well Scotticher, I went to www.bored.com and they had a link to www.straightdope.com and I spent the last 2 years in the archives preparing for the day when I could sign up for the beautiful SDMB that I had been reading but not not signed up for. And the rest is history…
I stopped caring about my post count some time ago (really!), but people still yell at me. But since I chat with quite a few Dopers, I don’t know if I’m still a newbie. My guess would be no. Besides, I don’t really care anymore, so nyaaah!
F_X
I began to think I wasn’t a newbie after a few mileposts:
-
I found a reference to me in a thread I hadn’t participated in.
-
Somebody started a Pit thread attacking me. I suppose that this happens fairly quickly to some a*hole posters, but in this thread other Members piped up and basically shut my attacker down before I even knew the thread existed.
-
Some Members have sent me private email.
-
I went to ChiDope and met people who recognized my unername. Or claimed to.
However, though I am no longer in the outermost circle of the SDMB, I do not feel I have arrived at the exalted inner circle, the pantheon, of SDMB Legends. I’m a utility infielder, just happy to be part of a championship caliber team.
