When does one lose his/her newbie status?

Being involved in a heated disagreement in the pit counts, too, I think.

I can’t believe Scotticher has never been to bored.com. You’ve heard of it though, right?

And I’ve never been pitted by name… See, that’s the catch. By name.

Well I am also a newbie but actually I was a lurker for quite some time before I decided to join. If you check the time that I joined I think I don’t have that many post for the time I have been a member. I mostly enjoy reading others posts. The way I found the SDMB was through e-tour when it was still functioning.

Welcome, LucChiq!!!

No, never been to bored.com. I think I may have seen it mentioned in passing, but it never really registered on my radar. I am seldom if EVER bored, so I guess it didn’t stick in my mind as someplace I needed to remember.

However, if Fierra came here from there, all you who GOT here from there have great geneology. Or lineage? Or something.

Oh, and I have never been pitted. Well, long ago and far away…back before the dawn of time in my first few weeks or so, I DID get called “Scotch Tape” by someone who left the board (after that thread, if I recall correctly) and has never been heard from since. And NO, I had NOTHING to do with it. As far as I know, anyway…

Well Scotti, you and I spend about the same amount of time in the Pit (which is to say next to none), but I do remember you helping me take down a know-not in there not too terribly long ago (early this year?).

White Lightning What pit post am I in ? if it’s not there anymore ? can you give me a link ? what do you mean I misused the word " your " ?

Psh. If you saying anything remotely controversial, they’ll never stop yelling at you. Ever. Not from now until the end of time. It’s one of the things that makes this board great! Or not so great: “Today for breakfast I had Cheerios with skim milk.” “Skim milk? Who drinks that crap? And only a moron pays for brand-name ‘Cheerios’ when for one-fourth the cost you can get supermarket-brand ‘Toasty-O’s’ . . .” Etc. etc. ad nauseam ad infinitum.

I think you’re no longer a newbie when you know your way around the Board, are up on the [limited] etiquette, how to post, and where – forums, people, forums! – and you recognize enough people to have sort of a back-of-your-mind list of people you like/respect and people you frankly just don’t.

But please remember that being “older” != smarter or wiser or more entertaining or more worth your time. 3000+ posts will not make a genius out of an idiot. A person who blathers will happily blather for 10,000 posts. Post what you want, when you want, and if people give you a hard time for being a newbie, invite them to the Pit and tell them to get stuffed – which will also solve your “have I been Pitted?” problem as well.

Not to name names or anything.

I certainly do not thnik of myself as an old hand (on this board), even though I have been registered for some time. I hardly ever post outside Cafe Society anyway.

Sorry, that was just a mean little joke. Not to launch a hijack, but you said ‘your’ when you meant ‘you’re.’ Your is possessive, eg. your brother took your book, while you’re is the contraction of ‘you are,’ eg. you’re so silly when you’re yelling at me (your mother said that you’re grounded; you’re holding your big toe).

People complain about that exceedingly common mistake fairly regularly in grammar-nitpick Pit threads, so in a sense you’ve already been taken to the Pit. Hardy har, get it? Sorry.

You’re no longer a newbie if Jodi mentions you by name.

Also, I’m getting an interesting picture here. Say something bad about Scotticher, and you just sorta … disappear.

I’ve done that a couple of times, and no one seems to notice…

Ah, yes, my darling…I remember it well. [sub]Next time someone tells you I am “sweet”, better send 'em THAT thread. I did get a little bit…shall we say “incensed”? Well, 9/11 got a LOT of us pretty upset.[/sub] But you know, even though our friend never came back in and explained what he really meant, I STILL don’t think he meant to say what it sounded like he meant to say. Which is to say, I spoke with him a bit by email, and I don’t think he is a bad guy…or even necessarily a “know-not”. I am still in favor of giving him the benefit of the doubt. Not saying YOU should do the same, hon…just saying. Pending any egregious behaviour I am unaware of, I like him.

Where’s an “evil grin” smilie when a girl needs one?

Or, depending where they say it, they get their virtual ass seriously kicked on a daily basis, harder and without mercy each and every time…

You know, we could start an entire thread on punning people’s screen names. For example, Scotticher = Scottage Cheese

hehe

Aw, you are all so sweet! Well, Anth and Ringo are, anyway.

[sub]It’ll be an interesting experiment to see if we ever hear from dantheman again, now won’t it? Scottage Cheese indeed…almost makes me prefer “Scotch Tape!” ) [/sub]

In that case, I guess I’m likely still a newbie. Maybe I just have nothing interesting to say, but I really wonder if anyone really knows that I post to the board. Not really a big deal or anything, but with so many posters it seems easy to get lost int he shuffle. FWIW, I’d say if you post regularly (a post every couple days or so), and have been on the boards for over 6 months, you’re not a newbie.
