I get fully dressed, then delay putting on sock and shoes until right before I have to leave. Until then slippers, flip flops or bare feet.
I walk around barefoot until I have to leave the apartment - only then do I put on socks, shoes and a jacket or coat.
Pants before socks. Pants are bigger and easier to find.
Depends on the season. I have just resumed my winter habit of sleeping with socks on (poor circulation) but most days in the summer I don’t wear socks at all (sandals) unless I walking some distance and want shoes. Then socks will go on right after shoes. Er, before.
I only wear socks.
When I’ve been pressured to wear pants, I put the socks on first. I don’t want to have to *fight *with the pant legs to apply the socks. Plus, the pants go **over **the socks. The socks don’t go **under **the pants… that’s just silly.
Thank you for this thread
Yes, this. I hate trying to put socks on properly while wearing pants.
boxers, then (usually) undershirt. Whether or not socks go on before pants is variable. I probably, more often than not, will put my pants on before the socks, but it’s not all that odd that I’d put the socks on before the pants. Shirt almost always is last, unless I am going to wear just a tee shirt. Tee shirts are different than undershirts. For me, at least, undershirts have a v-neck and are white. Tee shirts generally have a crew collar and come in many colors and may even have words or other artwork on them.
Socks don’t go on until I’m about to leave the house. It’s bad enough having to have something on my feet to begin with, I’m not going to go any longer with the discomfort than I have to.
Me, too. Then shirt, then trousies. Shoes last.
(Well, okay, wristwatch last…)
Socks before pants. Make them easier to pull up all the way and smooth out.
None of the answers, didn’t vote. My bra goes on first.
That is one reason I wear those Vibram shoes. They are the closest thing to barefoot you can get. Not very amenable to socks, but darn nice on the feet. Well, except when it rains a lot.
When getting dressed, the first thing I put on is airs. This is followed by socks, pantaloons, etc.
If I’m wearing long pants, the socks go on first. Otherwise my pants would be in the way of pulling my socks all the way up. Since my long pants are almost always jeans, the interference is nontrivial. Long time ago when I used to wear slacks routinely, it didn’t really matter which came first.
If I’m wearing shorts, I’m probably wearing sandals, so I’m not wearing socks anyway.
First thing I do when awakening is go to pee down the hallway. With teenage daughter in the house, modesty encourages me to cover up some, thus I put pants on for the trip. since they are on when I get back, I just need to grab a shirt and socks to be ready to go. shoes say downstairs by the door.
Socks come last. But I only wear ankle-length socks, so the scrunching isn’t a problem. And my jeans are skinny enough that the friction on the socks is a difficulty.
Socks after pants and shirt so I can accentuate the large bits of wardrobe appropriately. Accessories make the ensemble!
Oh, and when crime fighting, underpants last, just like Superman.
underwear shirt pants socks shoes belt followed by other accessories as appropriate for the day/circumstances
if I’m going fancy dress enough to require a tie, it goes in the order of underwear undershirt shirt socks pants belt tie vest/waistcoat/cumberbund (as appropriate and directed if worn) jacket
weekends the order of dress is blue jeans shirt socks shoes if I’m going out of the house.
The poll seemed a little unfinished

Actually, what I’d intended was to only know which of the two things in the poll people put on first - socks or pants. I kind of assumed people would choose between those two, and not worry about all the rest of the clothing. Just no matter where in the overall order of getting ready for the day, do they put on their pants before their socks, or their socks before the pants.
For example, my usual order is underwear, socks, pants, shirt, and shoes. I noticed I habitually put on my socks before my pants. Therefore, in a poll limited to socks and pants, I chose socks.
I reckoned without the 'Dope. I’m not sure what this proves about this message board, but I think it proves something.
