Will I remember the SDMB with a smile? Will I remember the countless hours I spent reading, posting, crying, and laughing with people I never met and feel that my time was well spent?
Will I tell my grandchildren about the stories of doughnut servers with crushes on men in convertibles? Will I tell them about all the people who talked with me about God and their beliefs and wonder what happened to them?
Will I be able to “log on” and find the SD? Will I even be here when I’m old and grey? Will you be here?
Should I do something on this beautiful Saturday morning instead of sitting here and writing this useless post?
Why the heck do I have so many questions? Will your answers satisfy me? Will you even post to this thread at all?
Will I come back and check to see if you posted in the next minute? Dang! :smack: I know the answer to that one already!
In 1989 my wife and I found and became avid members of a service called PC-Link, which featured a chat area and a bunch of games for users of IBM-compatible computers. It and its related services for Apple and Commodore 64 users were the first online sites to offer a graphic interface.
You probably never heard of it under that name, but you may be familiar with the service that the three OS-specific services were united into:
America Online
I see a similar future. It will evolve. And it will grow. Some of what’s valuable about it now will be lost. And it will pick up new capacities we cannot envision.
When I get older losing my hair many years from now
Will you still be sending me a Straight Dope link,
Weird URLs, Threadspotting, what do you think?
If I’d been out playing with the trolls, would you lock the thread?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m almost dead?
Oh, you’ll be older too - Ah
And if you post OPs, I could stay with you.
I could be handy giving out links when your cites have gone.
You can play with hamsters by the servers, love,
Reading Pit threads, giving cyber-shoves.
Cafe Society, Great Debates, who could ask for more?
Will you still read me, will you still heed me, when I’m sixty-four?
Every week we could read the latest by Mr. Adams,
If he’s not too old.
We shall make a list, “Hi, Opal” for Number 3,
of things to ask in GQ.
Send me an e-mail, start up a thread stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say,
Back it up with cites, ignorance does not play.
Give me an answer, fill in a form, please I don’t have all day,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m old and gray?

Also, the arguments between Christians and Atheists will still be going strong over in GD and jerks will still be being served fresh roasted over slow coals in the BBQ Pit.
Glad you liked them, and I admit that I’m seriously tempted by the prospect of chocolate chip cookies made by a professional baker.
