When it comes to [subject], I always like hearing from [poster].

Okay, so…this thread probably won’t get many replies and it might be seen as one of those masturbatory popularity cheerfests (where at least one poster will probably mention about how they’re not listed for anything, either jokingly or seriously)…but I wanted to make it just to give some credit where credit is due for once and really tell some posters how much their opinion really does get noticed and is valued (at least by me, but I’m guessing many others).

We have in our midst a bunch of posters who you always look forward to replying to threads of a certain subject, or–if not–at least–if they show up and post in a topic of that particular subject–you gleefully read their reply, a little happier than normal that they posted and shared their opinion on it. I know I have certain posters that, when I open a thread about a specific subject or some big issue/news event/update pertaining to said subject, I hope have replied giving their thoughts to…and I’m guessing there are others who have their own posters for different things.

I was inspired to make this thread due to recent posts that happened in the Prince passing away thread, where one of the posters I really like to see in any topic related to music got engaged in a bit of a debate in it and it made me want to let this poster know that I appreciate their thoughts in that topic and–really–in all topics related to music, in general. See, I bet that some of you know who I’m talking about even before I mention his name. If you think I’m talking about Wordman, you’re right.
But anyway, it’s not just him. There is a plethora of posters who I always enjoy reading posts by in a myriad of different subject matters…and here’s a few of them.

When it comes to anything regarding food, I love posts by JohnnyL.A., silenus, or pulykamell. Oh, sure, there’s others…but these three are the names that immediately always spring to mind when I think “food” and open up a food thread hoping for their opinions on the matter, whatever that matter may be.

When it comes to movies, I enjoy seeing posters like Mahaloth and especially Equipoise give their thoughts. Equipoise alone is sort of like an automatic, movie-watching machine in human form. He sees a lot of them and I trust his judgement in film fully. And then we have my “guilty pleasure” of Leaffan, who will often give his thoughts on a movie long after the movie has come out and upon his first viewing of it…often having an opinion of the movie that I don’t agree with at all, yet whenever he makes them, I still open them, curious to see his opinion.

When it comes to games, there are a lot of posters I would follow or subscribe to their newsletters, if I could. Johnny Bravo, Jophiel, and of course Kinthalis are all posters I hold in high regard when it comes to their gaming opinions. Also, Mahaloth again, he’s just not good with the movie thoughts, but also the game ones. And also: Der Trihs.

Even TV has a few posters I usually like reading posts by in those shows that I do watch. Little Nemo. Ellis Dee, and Acsenray, in particular, are posters I like reading thoughts by in those topics about those shows that they have an interest in.

How about when it comes to politics? I’m not interested in politics very much and rarely open the Elections or Great Debate forums, but when I do…I always like hearing anything John Mace has to say.

And when there’s talk about law or breaking it going on, I look for posts by Loach or Bricker often to see what they think about the thing being discussed.

And finally, like I said in my first example: Wordman is appreciated in most all threads music. He’s got very extensive knowledge about a very wide range of bands and songs and I always look forward to anything he has to say.

I’m just one person, though…and there are certainly way more subjects than I’ve listed here. Are there any posters you like hearing from when it comes to any specific subject or topic?

Wow! I am on a project and marching towards a deadline, but I saw this and had to post. Thank you! Yes, that thread was interesting ;).

I love the folks you mention and their areas of knowledge. I will add Crotalus for guitars and also, per his username, for his extensive knowledge of reptiles - I didn’t realize how interesting I would find those “what snake did I just see?” threads, but they are cool. And lieu, for his geology knowledge, but also for his skewed sense of humor - skewed towards poop jokes!

I always enjoy the music and guitar threads - thank you for starting your share, Idle Thoughts!

I knew it was going to be you WordMan before I clicked the spoiler.

I have to admit I find this a little strange. Because I feel I hardly ever post about TV. I don’t want to sound like the cliche because I do watch TV but I don’t watch it on a timely basis. I don’t have HBO. Showtime, or any of the other premium channels so I don’t watch shows like Penny Dreadful or Vinyl until they’re released on DVD. And even with network shows, I’ve gotten into the habit of watching episodes online weeks after they were broadcast. I just watched the season finale of Agents of Shield yesterday and that was broadcast on May 17. The result of this is I don’t participate in the threads on those shows because I’m watching them long after everyone else has seen them.

I hate everybody.

When it comes to interpersonal relationships, I always like hearing from Anaamika.

So, like I said…

nm

On trans issues, Una. On legal issues, Bricker and Richard Parker. On writing and books, Elendil’s Heir and Trinopus.

And monstro on any issue.

And I love all the rest of you Dopers as well.

I could easily mention more, but I’ll stick with the first to pop in my mind: when it comes to history, I always like hearing from Tamerlane. Always interesting.

That’s a good one. I’ll add Fenris and CandidGamera on comic books.

First poster I thought of- for the humor, more than anything. Generally speaking, if there’s a thread that has any sort of potty humor and lieu’s posting in it, it’s a guaranteed belly laugh out of me.

Colibri to tell me what bird I saw, too.

Forgot to mention Colibri for anything zoological or evolution related, and Stranger on a Train for astronomy and physics.

Johnny L.A., Magiver, Richard Pearse and LSLGuy for all things aviation.

I’ll second most of the ones above, and add, for education issues, Manda Jo, and for relationship issues, also Manda Jo. She’s got her head on straight for both topics.

This, definitely.

This as well.

For computer related issues, I’ve got to give a nod to Big T. He can explain things at a level I can comprehend.

Heh, when I saw the thread title, my first thought was:
What it comes to education, I always like hearing from Left Hand of Dorkness (particularly for issues relating to elementary education), Manda JO (for high school), and several Dopers, including Fretful Porpentine, for college-level.

None of this is to be interpreted to mean that I don’t like hearing from these posters on other issues as well.
When it comes to The Kinks, I always like hearing from Ms Boods.

No mention yet of Qadgop the Mercotan for his knowledge of medicine and prisons? He was the first one I thought of for this thread.

Oh, yeah!

Beowulf on computer issues. He’s helped me a number of times.

We have a number of lawyers here, and I respect all of them when it comes to legal issues. Richard Parker probably stands out in his excellent writing skills.

Colibri on all things “critter”.

Ravenman and Martin Hyde on US military history.

On lefty politics: wolfpup, iiandyiii, mhendo, (I’m sure I’m leaving out a few)

On libertarian (small “L”) politics: bone.

On righty politics: Martin Hyde and Bricker.

Overall any subject: Miller (good balance of wisdom and humor)

Overall common sense and excellent writing skills: monstro

CalMeacham on anything.
