When One Fantasy Football Thread isn't Enough...

What’s the difference?

Football without a trade deadline? What are we, Hockey?

This is a great suggestion that so far has been ignored. :frowning:

As far as the draft goes, the current date and time that is scheduled is fine by me. If it needs to be changed, Saturday or Sunday at any time shouldn’t be a problem. Weeknights, however, are a problem. I work nights Monday through Thursday.

I apologize if this screws anything up.

Considering the year they’re going to have, your heart will thank you if you miss as many games as you can. Go Iggles.

With a scheduled draft, does this mean it’s online? If it is, is there any way to trash talk the lousy picks people will make? And who’s buying the beer & pizza for everyone?

I would prefer the playoffs start on week 15 if there are only 4 teams in the playoffs. Week 17 is usually a waste for certain fantasy players so we should avoid it if possible.

Does the no trade deadline and no max transactions mean we have complete freedom to trade amonst the other owners and waiver pickups? If there is a waiver wire, how will it work? First dibs? Worst record gets preference?

The return yards shouln’t change very much so I don’t have a problem with it, but the receptions could boost the already high value of RBs. A possible suggestion is to make receiving TD worth more as RBs don’t get many of those. The highest was Ahman Green at 5 and Westbrook & Tomlinson at 4. 35 WRs had 5 or more receiving TDs. This would give a little boost to the WRs if that was the intent of making receptions worth something.

Whatever the hell this stuff is it most definately isn’t football :stuck_out_tongue:

Total points vs. Head to Head: In total points, the standings are based on who has the most total fantasy points over the course of the season. In head to head, there is a “game” each week between your team and another fantasy team. Whomever gets more points in that weeks game gets a win, the loser gets a loss, and standings are set by how many wins and losses you have.

Total points is probably more “fair” to the best teams in particular, but head to head is both a lot more fun (in my opinion, anyways), and the way that a good majority of leagues do it (including all of the so-called “Experts” leagues, from what I’ve seen).

A Sunday time seems like it’d be pretty decent for the people who’ve posted, for the most part. I’m not quite as passionate about Patriots preseason games as Ellis Dee seems to be about his win-challenged New York teams, so feel free to schedule over one if necessary

-K.

I already have tickets to all four of the Bucs’ preseason games but I don’t want to go to all four, so any evening is fine for me to draft.

Come on #1 pick…

And I’m not rabidly anti-touchdownist. I’m passionately pro-yardagist.

Yes, thanks. I forgot to say something about that when I started the league, but I have now. Please either put your username in the team name, or at least post a message on the league board with that information.

Hell, with Manning and Warner back there, you can just make your picks during the post-turnover commercial breaks.

Anyway, sounds like a Sunday night would be the best bet. Any objections to moving the draft back one day, same time? Oh, and to answer your first question, the draft should probably last somewhere between an hour and two hours, but it’s more likely to be closer to two. Of course, you can always rank your players and duck out of the draft after 10 rounds or something, and let the Armitron pick the rest of your team for you. As far as the trade deadline, does hockey really not have one? I thought they did, but what do I know? Anyway, if half of you guys want me to plug in a deadline, I’ll do it.

Frank gets the first pick. Just kidding. No I’m not.

Yes, yes, you.

Noted. See below.

Yes, total freedom, unless you want a deadline. The waiver wire works like this- at the start of the season, the guy with the last pick is first on the waiver list. If he makes a claim, he gets the player, then gets bumped to the bottom of the list. Yahoo’s waiver claims are not standings-dependent; the list from draft day stays that way except when somebody makes a claim.

That’s a good suggestion. Probably too complicated to be worth it, though. Like I said before, it screws up the whole balance, so maybe we should scrap it.

Still no new members, though, eh? Just a Euro-style cheapshot from owlstretchingtime, who I guess likes his/her football low on action.

Now then, the scheduling. We want a playoff, yes? If so, it’s got to be a four teamer. We’ll bump out week 17, since Frank #2 is right in that most of the big guns end up not playing then anyway. As an alternative, we could make week 17 the intra-Dope Super Bowl against the other league, but of course the sitting-out problems would remain.

Okay, I can see how this season is going to go for me. I’ve called Guiness and reserved a spot for “World’s most trash talk received.” Oh my poor G-Men.

I find it funny that the Eagles fan wants to bump up the value of RB TD receptions verus WR TDs. How many WR TDs did McFlabb throw? How about negative yardage dumpoffs to RBs who ran it in with RAC yards? I foresee doom and gloom in Philly this year. TO will expose McNabb for the hack that he is. (Please bookmark this to make me eat crow if I’m wrong. hehheh.)

Dallas is winning the division (“his styles are incomplete, just like Vinny Testaverde”) and the NY football Giants are getting a wildcard. You heard it here first, folks!

I’m confused. Let’s say you had the last pick and I had the second to last. You get first dibs on the waiver wire, but you don’t want anybody. Can I not select until you make a pick? In other words, could the owner with the last pick just never pick anyone up, thus negating the waiver wire?

They technically have one. It ends 3 weeks before the end of the 7 month season. It’s pathetic and sad.

I’m cool with whatever regarding points. Head to head and total points both sound fine. (And fun.) In head to head, I take it you must have an even number of players? Also, with 10 owners, that’s 9 matchups (everybody once) plus 5 more games…I trust the complexity of parity would be handled appropriately.

Also, I agree that TDs are more random than yardage. Hell, so does Tagliabue, which is why the NFL measures the best offense and defense in yardage instead of points. Count me in as a yardagist.

I guess I dig return yards, but barely. Regarding return yards, where I’m concerned, if it adds no hassle to the commish, cool. I can’t imagine it is worth even a minor hassle, though.

If TDs are normally worth 7, I would say keep it real and make them worth 6 just because it feels right. If they already are worth 6, and this skews them ahead of yards too much, then I suppose 5 is okay, but I gotta say 5 points for a TD just feels wrong.

Rushing yards are what they are no matter who gets them, right? As in, Vick gets most of his points rushing? And that annoying Miami WR who ran a reverse 60 yards against my hapless Giants whimper would get the normal rushing yards points as if he were a RB?

The waiver wire works like this. Everyone who gets waived that week goes on the wire; teams put in a waiver request prior to the deadline, (usually wednesday at midnight). At the moment of the deadline, each team gets its requested player. Here’s the part where waiver order comes in: if two teams select the same guy, the one with the higher ranking gets him; the one with the lower ranking gets nothing, unless they put in an alternative request.

If the team with the highest waiver priority doesn’t make a waiver request, it doesn’t mean nobody else gets a player. It just means they forfeit their waiver for that week and have top priority again the next week.

Right. Rushing yards are worth the same to any player, and they’re worth 2.5 times as much (usually) as passing yards.

Okay, can we move the draft date up a bit or something?

I can’t hold it in any longer…

I signed up for the league - thankfully the browns - lions game that week is on a saturday, so I should have no problems with the draft.

Atta boy, SenorBeef, atta boy. At least now it’s a viable league.

Two more and it’s a complete league, although we can always accomodate, oh, about six or eight more.

Herr Commissioner- a question:

Does the draft order have to be randomly set or can you alter it? I was thinking we could have some kind of a contest to determine who gets first pick… y’know, trivia, or something.

Someone could volunteer to run the contest and get the third pick reserved for them, something like that…

…Or am I being silly?

You’re being silly.

It will let me do that, though. We’d just have to wait until the league was set (and get half of the league’s permission) before we could do that. What did you have in mind, exactly?

Some sort of contest would be more interesting than a random draft, assuming it was reasonably fair to all.

Don’t have a clue…

10 HARD questions; first person to get all ten answers correct gets the first pick.

eg. “How high did Deion Sanders get on the Billboard Hot 100?”

Christ, we may never fill now, what with the twelve other people deciding to start their own leagues. We still have time, of course, but if we aren’t on the first page we’re not getting any owners.

So, to the first page.

I’ll join, though I’ve done no research at all this year yet (my regular league doesn’t draft until right before the season starts).

Never done an online live draft. Do we just log into the league at the appointed time?
