“Chinatown” is probably a reference to the movie of the same name.
Look it as the price you paid to find out the contents of her character. Now you know she can’t be trusted with money. So act accordingly- You can still be sociable and observe the usual courtesies at familial functions, but never give that bitch a dime.
Yep, Although the proper quote is “Forget it Jake, it’s Chinatown”, Jake being the character played by Jack Nicholson.

Steal the money back + a percentage to teach her a lesson

I wouldn’t forgive them, because to me there’s nothing to forgive. If someone steals from me, I have no doubt they probably were desperate and needed the money. Most people do not steal (at least in the US) without some sort of severe need. When I put myself in that position, and fully realize how awful it would feel to be that hard up, I see no reason to be hostile over it.
Or maybe they’ve got really crappy impulse control and are a psycho with a drug habit that I’m not interested in supporting with my money.
Either one is a real possibility. But the appropriate response is real different for each of them.
Kleptomania is another very real possibility.
