Yes. Absolutely. Rosie is a sick freak of nature, that unfortunately has a nearly unstoppable media colossus behind her.
Just curious…how many violent crimes have you been the victim of, and what exactly were their nature?
I’ve been the victim of 6 physical assaults and one attempted rape. Three assaults against me were successful, because I am smaller and physically weaker than most people (as are most women) and had no equalizer in my favor. Three assaults and the attempted rape were thwarted, because in all three cases I had my old faithful Ruger P85 (yeah I know, not a great gun, but it worked for me).
How DARE you try to abridge my most basic human right, the right to defend my own life? Who was there to help me? The “smiling Policeman” that gun banners assure me is waiting on every street corner to assist me? Fuck you!
Go Anthracite!!! Good to see someone fighting back against the criminals!
And MetallicAsh, what makes Rosie so special that her kids and family are worth more than any other in America? This seems very similar to when my relatives would say, “Do as I say and not as I do.” I didn’t respect that attitude then, and I don’t respect it now. I think myself and many people on this board dislike Rosie not for her views, but for her hypocrisy. She is telling people what not to do (own guns), but then turning around and spitting in their faces by hiring a guard. It’s insulting even if you agree with her views.
Anthracite, I’m sorry you’ve met with such misfortunes…
Anyway, as an announcement, I’m not going to argue anymore gun control in this thread anymore. There’s another thread for that. My apologies to everyone, I should have brought that up earlier ::smacks head against the wall:: Stupid me…
ANYWAY… back the OP… Rosie and her hypocrisy…
What Rosie is tasting now is a taste of reality, you see. Being a rich and famous celebrity, she’s lived a fantasy life, separated from real life out there. Her views and opinions assume an ideal world, a world that we don’t have. Ideally, everybody would be able to get a gun if they would want, but nobody would need to use it. Ideally, guns would be curiosity pieces to be used for fun, shooting at targets. Ideally, we’d all be able to live without wars, famine, disease, quarrel, or ignorance.
Realistically, shit happens. Rosie is just starting to truly realize this, and upon that realization, she took the course of action that had the greatest effect for protection… she got a hired gun.
Rosie may be living a fantasy life now, but isn’t she originally the daughter of some Irish guy from Brooklyn? I don’t think she was always rich. She may even remember what it was like to live in a big, violent, over-populated city. Damn! she is a hypocrite or an idiot. She should be handing out snub-nosed 38s to the audience after the show.
So Rosie went on the Today Show and talked about how she wasn’t a hypocrite. From the WorldNetDaily article:
Rosie’s becoming a bad joke. Hey, since most car accidents occur within 5 miles of one’s home, perhaps she should move 10 miles away, and be even safer!
And no matter how many people try to convince me otherwise, they are not a form of defense. They are 100% attack weapons, and no other.
Criminal enters property. He has a gun for attack purposes. You have a gun for so-called defensive purposes. Who feels he has the right to shoots first? And then who is the murderer?
Hey, I’m definitely in favor of having guns for defense. After all, the famed self-defense instructor John Cleese proved that a gun is the second-best way to defend yourself against someone who attacks you with a piece of fresh fruit (the best way, of course, is to drop a 16-ton weight on them.) Of course, he never DID get around to telling us how to defend yourself against a pointed stick…
Well, it’s about both as far as I can see. But you’re right, there do appear to be several concurrent threads about the same topic, and this one is not so specific. Forgive me.
Hey GuanoLad! So when the guy 12 inches taller and 100 pounds heavier than me tried to rape me, and I showed him my P85 and told him to back off, I was the one attacking him? So when the guy came at me with the box knife and I ran to my car and got my gun, I was the attacker? Wow, that’s a whole new way to blame the victim. Next thing you know you’ll be saying I was the attacker because I dressed “provocatively”? Maybe I attacked his “manhood” by not being interested in him, and therefore deserved to be raped?
You say that guns are “100% attack weapons”. Present your argument about how I was the attacker. Come on, or do you need me defenseless first?
Here, I’ll do it for you. Assume guns don’t exist. Criminal enter house with knife, you defend yourself with knife. So you are the attacker, not the criminal. Oh wait, this one’s even better. Criminal enters house with bare hands, you defend yourself with bare hands. Nope, you’re the criminal there too. If you replace “gun” with any other object or item, your argument is exposed for what it really is, which is “you have no basic right to defend your own life, should it cause harm to another, even that if person causing harm to you”.
I also can’t believe no one else has called you out on this.
I want to see GuanoLad respond to Anthracite’s personal experience posted above. I’m waiting to see how someone defending life, limb, or property is an ‘attacker.’ I still don’t understand how so many women, especially, are unwilling to consider such a good means of self defense. It also amazes me how so many women (i.e. Rosie O’Donnell) would disparage those who keep a gun to reduce the advantage of an attacker. Maybe they would just have you “sit back, relax, and enjoy” the inevitable.
I’m glad Anthracite that your experiences turned out for the better rather than the worse. And I agree 100% that the only reason they turned out that way is because you had a gun.
Uhhhh…before anyone gets any ideas, my actual profession is pest control technician. It’s just that I always wanted to refer to myself as a “hired killer”, 'cause, y’know, in a way I sorta am, and this seemed to be a better place to say it than on my tax return.
Well, Rosie is at it again. Apparently being called a hypocrite by just about every news organization doesn’t sit well with her, so she’s digging an even deeper hole for herself.
Duh, Rosie. Did it ever occur to you that there are people who are just as much (if not more) in need of protection than yourself, people who don’t live in nice posh neighborhoods, people who can’t afford an armed bodyguard? That whining “well, I really need one!” doesn’t make you any less a hypocrite? That, in fact, admitting that ANYONE needs the protection of a firearm makes your position on gun control ("…if you own a gun, you should go to jail.") indefensible?
I gotta admit, I’m stunned at the depth of her hypocrisy. It’s like Ed Begley buying a gas-guzzling SUV because “he needs to go places.” How can anyone, even a celebrity, be so dense?
I think the greatest victory for gun control advocates has to be convincing a majority of the american people that the right to own a gun has something to do with protecting ourselves against criminals. The right to own a gun was put in place to protect ourselves from tyranny.
As for Rosie I will continue to fight for her right to bear arms (or those in her employ).
If it’s protection you want, might I suggest a trained german shepherd? Dog, that is. Though I have no reason to believe that trained german sheep herders wouldn’t be very effective as well…
Dogs are great pals. They never mistake the kid sneaking in past his curfew for an intruder and blow their brains out. If a kid sneaks in and plays with it when the parents are away, there’s usually no bloodshed. Plus, they can be quite menacing when they want to be and they are very loyal. My dog would take a bullet for me and wag his tail while dying.
I think Rosie would have been wiser to get a guard dog instead of arming her body guard.
