When the Simpsons were great. . .

Ok, just so many episodes have really stunk in the last couple of years. . . and then tonight they showed the episode with the chili cook-off where Homer has the hallucinations and Johnny Cash cameos as the coyote. . . Yay! It made we remember why we all loved the Simpsons back in the day.
I know a lot of people hate this episode, but. . .
What other episodes were brilliant? Oohh! Duff Gardens!

My absolute FAVORITE episode was when prohibition came back to Springfield

Homer rolling on the lawn after the basement explodes - cracking up as I type this…

Two words: Mr. Plow.

The Ayn Rand daycare episode.

Though I don’t think the Simpson have jumped the shark yet.

Slee

Frank Grimes, but not his son son.

The Australia episode.

The Monorail Episode.

The Shinning.

22 short films - Professor Frink, Professor Frink, he’ll make you laugh, he’ll make you think…

“Eat that, Space Coyote!”

The zombie episode where Homer mistakes Johnny and Edger Winter for zombies and runs them over.

Are you kidding? The Simpsons hasn’t been any good since 5 seconds into the second Tracy Ullman short. It’s been all downhill from there, I don’t even know why I bother to watch it every week anymore. Nowadays it has the Worst. CBG impressions. Ever.

Lemon of Troy

and

Homer Goes to College.

(HGtC was written by Conan, btw)

The third, fourth and fith seasons were near perfect.

She’s a squirrel-squashin’, deer-smackin’ drivin’ machine
Canyonero! Canyonero! Canyonero!

In my opinion the sixth and eleventh season were the best overall. They both had many strong episodes. Of course… they also contain my two favorite episodes: “Homer Bad Man” (the sexual harrassment one) and “E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)” (The tomacco one). absolute genius.
Doh! I was about to point out that Ender clearly agreed with me, as he had every episode from those seasons on his list.

Oops. Sorry about the duplicate post.

My two favorites are:
Marge Vs. The Monorail

“Homer, there’s a man here who thinks he can help!”
“Batman?”
“No, he’s a scientist”
“Batman was a scientist”
“It’s not Batman!”

and

You Only Move Twice

“Good God! The 59th street bridge just collapsed!”
“Maybe it just collapsed on its own.”
“We can’t take that chance.”
“Ohh, you always say that, I want to take a chance!”

The show hasn’t been good since 1999. It’s only been truly awful and terrible the last two years though.

Hey another Best of the Simpson thread–

My favorite (this week) was the Treehouse of Horror episode when Homer went back in Time with his time traveling toaster.

The wannabe CBG’s could at least be funny about it. But I guess the character hits a little to close to home for some.

In my opinion, the entire season 5 of the Simpsons was absolute BRILLIANCE. Seasons 4 and 6 are the runners up. Let me do a run down here:

Rosebud - “Smithers, have the rolling stones killed”

Homer Goes to College - “Hello Dean, you’re a stupidhead”

Marge on the Lam - the ENTIRE first act. Sing along - sunshine lollipops and rainbows…

Treehouse of Horror IV - superfunhappyslide!!!

Bart’s Inner Child - oh god, it’s been years since I’ve seen that episode…someone help me

Boy-Scoutz N The Hood - “duh…I’m the captain!”

The Last Temptation of Homer “is that a turkey behind the bed?”

$pringfield - “I’m Idaho!”

Homer the Vigilante - “Lisa, never ever stop in the middle of a hoedown!”

Homer and Apu - “Are you really the head of the Kwik-E-Mart? Really? You?”

Bart Gets Famous - “My son’s a box!!!”

Lisa vs Malibu Stacy - eh, they all have their dud

Deep Space Homer - “I don’t get it. That was NON-alcoholic champagine!”

Homer Loves Flanders - Homer:this is Ned Flanders, my friend!
Lenny: What’d he say?
Carl: I dunno. Something about being gay.

Bart Gets An Elephant - “D’oh! A dear! A female dear!”

Burn’s Heir - this episode mentions my hometown. nuff said

Lisa’s Rival - the entire sugar subplot

Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baddasssss Song - “that sounded like a prayer! A prayer in school! Prayer has no place within these walls, just like education has no place within the church”

The Boy Who Knew Too Much - the entire Bart/Skinner chase

Secrets of a Successful Marriage - “wow homer you really are slow!”

ah, the great days. Of course, Last Exit to Springfield (aka Dental Plan) is still the greatest of them all
