I’m quite sure that there isn’t a thread covering what I’m about to ask, but if there is, could someone please post the link? Thanks =)
So I’ve been pondering about what effect virii and bacteria have on strenuous training. In recent years quite a few Swedish children (though obviously this isn’t exclusive to us) have died whilst playing soccer or doing something equally strenuous. The experts are baffled; some claim it was due to an aortic dissection which some children are more prone to due to congenital defects, others claim that it might have been an infection that triggered the fatal cardiac event. Now, I train quite a bit and many times I’ve gone out on 2 hour runs while being mildly congested and have to blow snot every ten minutes. Smart? I don’t know. But some expert said that “if your throat hurts, don’t run”. Makes sense: bacterial infection, which can cause sore throats, can travel in the bloodstream to the heart and cause endocarditis. But is it safe to run if you’re suffering from a run of the mill cold virus? I asked a few doctors at the hospital I worked at, and they couldn’t really offer a clear-cut answer. All of them went with the “well, sure, there’s always a risk”. I, on the other hand, would like to know with some certainty if I’m placing my pump at certain risk.
Thanks guys!

If a doctor says that “there’s always a risk,” there’s your answer. You’re not going to get any more of a clear-cut answer than that.
Medical advice from a message board like this is not a good idea. You’re not going to get any better answer than you’ve received from your doctors. Even our resident MDs would have to examine you before they could dispense any “certain” medical advice.
I’m going to close this until I can confer with higher-ups. Even so, I’m pretty certain that we do not want to be dispensers of “certain” medical advice.
