I realize that this forum is no substitute for a visit to the doctor. At work today I began feeling a bit light headed. Having just (48 hrs ago) sat on a 3 hr plane ride next to a passenger that ended the flight vomiting, I assumed that I may have contracted a norovirus and sent myself home to prevent an outbreak. Three hours have passed and the vomiting has not begun. In my experience norovirus hits hard and fast.
What has begun to concern me is a slight parasthesia in my arms and hands. I can think of at least one non-critical source for this symptom; however, I work with heavy metals. We even have bottles of the deadly organomercury compounds (well sealed and contained.) Nevertheless exposure is not impossible.
Given that I have a tendency to be a bit of a hypocondriach, when do I drop everything and see the doctor?
gee thanks everybody for the usefull info here. Are there no doctors around? After an hour I felt fine and went back to work. I am fairly confident I know the issue and am not concerned; however, I’ll mention it to the doc next time I see him. Parastheses however was a new reaction. Is it ever truly benign?
At least I am confident that heavy metal poisoning was not the issue, and thats what scared me.
Taking medical advice from a random stranger isn’t very logical.
Since you didn’t give anywhere near enough information for, even the foolhardy, to guess the cause of your symptoms is possibly why one one responded.
The question was not for a diagnosis, it was to ask if I should see a doctor. I wouldn’t dream of taking serious medical advice off this board as the very first sentence in my post states.
Go.
If you’re worried, go.
The idea that going to the doctor is inappropriate when you feel ill is silly!
