It was definitely coined on the alternate board but all I can tell you was that it wasn’t me who did it. By the way, if you think that our language restrictions here are bad, we had to be downright saintly in terms of language and topic discussion to follow the rules of the place that hosted the temp board. As I recall, TubaDiva paid for the temp place out of her own pocket.

The cause of the shutdown was a deliberate hack by a disgruntled person. The cause of the missing posts was very poor backup protocol. This was explicitly told to us by Management at the time. There was pretty clear speculation on who it was but no definitive proof of which I am aware so it’s inappropriate to mention any names.

While I’m not saying that TWOOD was an intentional act, it seems suspicious that it occurred immediately after an incredibly astute poster painstakingly pieced together seemingly innocuous info from many different threads to prove that “Cecil Adams” is the pseudonym for the Ruling Council of the Illuminati.

After all, the name “Cecil” comes from the Latin for blind or dim-sighted and “Adam” was the first man. Pluralizing Adam was a way to indicate “all of mankind”. The rather obvious meaning behind the name being that humans have been blind to the truth since the beginning of time. Why? BECAUSE YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH! The Illuminati exist to protect mankind from the ultimate truth by doling out, via their Cecil Adams cover, small chunks of truth that fool mankind into thinking we are fighting ignorance. It’s a clever scheme.

Which temp board were you on? I thought most people went to OpalCat’s board at Fathom, I know I did.

there were a couple of boards we moved to and from because they couldn’t handle out traffic at the time …I remember at the last one tubadiva was paying for a corporate account out of her pocket because he crashed the free version …

but once it was discovered that we weren’t on the actual sdmb a lot of banned fools came back to hassle people…

the thread id like to get a link for was our biggest thread was the":lotr in the style of…" it was a thread where ya rewrote lord of the rings in youe fav authors style …

I remember when the board was yellow. I actually joined in September 1999, but changed my username from ALL CAPS to the lowercase version in October, once I was advised that all caps was rude.

I remember a hacking type incident that screwed things up pretty badly. Someone (username rhymes with “moat silly”) discovered how to spoof other posters’ user IDs. This may or may not be the same incident referenced in this thread. There was actually lots of drama way back then, on a variety of fronts.
