I live alone too - but I’m a lazy slug… so if they had delivery to my area, I would call out (and my pizza place is less than 3 miles away.)
I am only familiar with California Pizza kitchen. That is a pizza place as most people there are getting pizza. From the web Bertucci’s is probably not a pizza place. But it might be if most every body is getting pizza with only a few people trying something else from the menu then it is a pizza place. There is a local Italian restaurant near me that sells good pizza but it also has other menu items. Pizza is not favored by the patrons over the other offerings so in my mind it is not a pizza place.
I actually can’t remember the last time I called for a pizza delivery. It’s been at least 5 years. Part of the reason for this is, I suspect, that my favorite pizza place (Vito & Nick’s) does not deliver. The best you can do is call in for pick up (which is what I do once in a blue moon–normally, I just eat there.)
Otherwise, for convenience eating I get frozen pizza (Home Run Inn or California Pizza Kitchen). When I have a real hankering for pizza, it’s time to go out. I make it from scratch, too, but while I enjoy my pizza, the pizzas I really love I can’t make at home.
Take-N-Bake. Order it, pick it up freshly made, and cook it at home. Last time I had pizza, it was delivery from a local pizzeria, but usually it’s the take-n-bake.
I chose other because I don’t consider any of those places pizza places. Sure they serve disks of vaguely breadlike material with a red substance and bits and blobs of other materials that might be considered toppings. It’s not pizza in my book.
Burt’s, Lou Malnati’s, Pequod’s, Gino’s for stuffed; Marie’s, Alberto’s and Delisi’s for thin crust.
That’s a long winded way of saying I prefer to eat at the restaurant or have it delivered in a distant second.
I am pretty much the same. Pizza is a frequent delivery choice when we are both too tired to deal with making dinner, but it’s always from a favorite local Italian joint, not a chain pizza place. Pizza is also sometimes a choice for a night out with friends, but less often now than when we were all younger and poorer.
No delivery, so if it is a weekend we make it ourselves, if it is during the week mrAru picks it up on the way home.
Usually delivery from Hungry Howies, Dolly’s or Jet’s (omg they have the best square).
If I pick up pizza, it’ll be from Little Caesars as they don’t deliver, it’s a sick addiction, I know.
Going to a pizza restaurant means I’m already out for the night, and hanging with friends, so it’ll be a non-chain place (I have 3 local favorites for this: Como’s, The Green Lantern, and The Alibi Inn)
I’ll eat them if I have to, but I don’t really care for any frozen pizzas. They taste synthetic, and… well… Frozen. A cheap imitation.
Homemade pizza is almost another animal to me. It never seems to even come close to the taste of chain/restaurant pizza. I like it, but not nearly as much as the good stuff. Mostly, I think, the secret is in the sauce (crust is critical too, though)… I’ve never sampled anyone’s recipe that can quite compare.
I voted for option #1.
It means a place that may (or does) serve pizza but is not pre-dominantly a pizza place (as in, a place who is known for mostly just pizza).
Option one includes any pizza place, not just “fast food” type of pizza. I would have included more example names, but I don’t know the name of your local pizza eatery.
There’s a Round Table literally a block away from me; I just walk over and get some.
My local pizza joint is about five minutes’ walk from my place, so I just go and collect it.
When I get pizza, it’s usually delivery or pick-up.
If it’s delivery, in my town it’s one of the big three chain pizzas (or if at work, Jet’s or a place called Gourmet). The best pizza in my little town doesn’t deliver, but occasionally, I’ll call in an order (they don’t even do online orders). It’s totally worth the two mile trip to pick it up.
There are a couple of LeanCuisine frozen pizzas in the freezer right now, but as stated upthread, frozen is a whole different thing. They’re tasty enough to carry to work for lunch, but I don’t consider them real pizza any more than I consider Taco Bell real Mexican food.
Once in a blue moon, when out with friends or playing a gig, we’ll order a pizza to soak up the beer that we’re drinking. The quality ranges from awesome to cheap, frozen stuff that the local dive keeps on hand to feed the drunks.
I get it delivered, but only use a chain restaurant as a last resort.
My choice in Henderson, NV is a place called Napoli Pizza & Restaurant.
I live 200 yards from a Dominos so I used to walk up the street and pick it up. Now I only eat pizza once every couple of months or less. If I am craving it I buy a slice from the place across the road from the pharmacy that does my scripts every month and eat it while I wait.
I make it from scratch, and it’s better than anything I could buy.
We either takeout from a one off pizza place near us, or we will make our own. Would never consider a frozen pizza.
If I’m superlazy I’ll order it from Papa John’s. I love their pizza, especially the Hawaiian barbecue variety.
But since I only eat the toppings these days I will usually just make it at home. Still I spent many more days buying than making from scratch so that was my choice.
The nearest pizza place here is at least a 20 minute drive and isn’t very good, despite not being a chain. Of course, no one will deliver out to where we are. So when we have pizza, I either have to pick it up on the way home from work, or we just make it. Homemade is far superior to anything available around here.
The Doug’s Feast: Ham, Pineapple, Mushrooms, Feta Cheese, Banana Peppers, Mozzarella.
hands down, the best pizza you will ever eat.
