When you want to eat pizza, how do you get it?

I live in NYC so we have several places with different styles that we typically order from (or I’ll hit Mimi’s at Lex and 84th if I’m in the area since they don’t deliver to my street) and I work in NJ so there’s no shortage of little Italian pizza joints that I can go to to satisfy my pizza jones. I have a good life.

Ah, take-and-bake. Yeah amlot of supermarkets do have that. I think frozen is still
Much more popular. In any case, students are more likely to get delivery pizza, which doesn’t require them to do any preparation themselves.

I think all pizza places should be in a separate category from pizza places in or within about an hour or so drive of NYC.

Heh. I love New York and I likemNew York pizza just fine, but isn’t this “New Yorkmpizza is uniquely good” thing amlittle overworked? The best pizza I’ve ever had was made by a Frenchman from Alsace.

No. I know from experience that pizza sucks the further you get from NYC.

Up until recently, my answer would have been store-bought frozen more often than not; delivery occasionally when I didn’t mind spending the extra cash. But recently a new pizza place opened up near me, with pretty damn good pizza, nice owners/customer service who already know me, and great carry-out specials, which don’t end up being more than a buck or two more than the good frozen kind (I really don’t like the super-cheap frozen). So I get from them now. They’re close enough to walk to.

I get it from a pizzeria. Either pick up, eat in or delivery.

Domino’s, Papa John’s and Pizza Hut are not pizzerias. They are crap factories.

And I know from experience that you can get fantastic pizza almost anywhere, regardless of how far you are from New York. So shall we call it even then?

I’ve been hanging out on Reddit too much lately. I went to upvote this comment and was disappointed I couldn’t.

But, of those three… I’ve had at least half-way decent pizza from Papa John’s on occasion. I still wouldn’t actively chose it over some local places, though.

Papa John’s around here is horrible; however, Domino’s has actually improved since their “sorry our pizza sucks” campaign.

Sue me, I’m poor. I buy cheap Tombstone pizzas from Walmart. I consider it something of a splurge that right now, I happen to have a block of Mozzarella cheese and can add some to the top of them.

Complain all you want about the quality of Dominos or other delivery places. Your perspective changes after a prolonged period of poverty when you can only dream of having a pizza delivered.

We drive to the local pizzeria and pick it up after ordering by phone.

We have three regular ways of getting pizza.

Take and bake from a chain, very cheap
Delivery from a chain, very convenient
Pick up from a local hole-in-the-wall pizza joint, the absolute best, but out of the way and kinda expensive.

I think that’s the problem with all three of the big 3 chains - inconsistency. I’ve actually gotten pretty decent pizza from Pizza Hut before… and I’ve gotten pizzas from them that were nearly inedible. Those places are often staffed with people who just don’t care, and to me, on those fairly rare occasions where I’m going to treat myself to delivery pizza, it’s just not worth the crap shoot. I’d rather pay the extra buck or two to a local place I know is good and consistent – and, with the new place that opened up close to me I mentioned upthread, it’s not even any extra money.

I’ve not tried Domino’s since the ‘Hey, we don’t suck anymore!’ rebranding, but maybe I’ll give it a try.

I should Pit you for your insolence!

Make it! If time is an issue, get the Pillsbury crust in the tube, pre-cook the crust for 5 minutes (critical step) and hit the salad bar for the toppings.

Way better and no-guilt!

Fortunately we have a good local pizza place that I get mine from.

The National Pizza Chains have gone way down in quality since I left college in the 80’s.

I just don’t get it often enough :(. I really want it much more often than I’m getting it.

Sometimes I make my own from scratch, sometimes I eat in at a pizza store. I didn’t vote because I could only pick one option.

We used to order pizza deliveries at work. But since I’ve retired the most common way I eat it is getting a couple of slices at a pizza place. And I will occasionally bake a frozen pizza.
