Archaeologist. History always interested me, and when I was about ten I read books like “Gods, Graves and Scholars” and “Und die Bibel hat doch recht” which instantly piqued my interest in archaeology. It went hand in hand with Disney adventure stories and other cultural examples like the Indiana Jones movies, and of course I had a very romantic conception of the profession and didn’t know about the hard, tedious and often frustrating work of an archaeologist. But that interest never vanished, and though I took a different path, I still think that I’ve got some qualities needed for a modern archaeologist. But it’ll never turn out, sigh.
An independently wealthy superhero or a terrorist.
Biologist was my dream occupation from the time I was in elementary school. I ended up working as a field botanist, and transitioned to research and teaching.
Apparently I lack the imagination to cast my mental net very far.
I wanted to be a nurse, like my favorite aunt.
I also wanted to work at Pizza Hut (mind you, I was 4)
Fighter pilot.
But then my eyesight went South, and I became an Engineer.
Then I joined the Bomb Squad.
Then I retired from that, and now work on nukes.
Tripler
. . . and I lived happily ever after. The end.
As a kid I wanted to be a Paleontologist. I really really loved Dinosaurs. I even chose the Universities I applied to based on ones that offered it as a Major (not many do) but ended up not Majoring in it.
My first job that I remember observing IRL was at the grocery store. I wanted to be the guy that Bagged the groceries and brought them out to the car.
When I was a child my dream job was to be a TV star. Specifically, a child TV star. Sadly I will never achieve that dream, being 53 years old now.
In 2nd grade it was Batman. I mean, he didn’t have powers, just a cave, a costume, and the coolest car until KITT came along, so it’s not that crazy (in a 2nd grader’s mind). The art teacher was not amused when I painted Batman when were were suppose to paint what we wanted to be when we grow up, however. That guy was an asshole, though.
I am glad other people remember these things
Too late to edit, i was on Tapatalk.
\i am glad others remember these things, I used that exact topic as a writing prompt with my group, About half of the people age 35-70 said they didn’t remember or didn’t really “grasp” the question. My answer was I wanted to be an astronomer and novelist. Considering my head is still lost in the clouds and my posts still fall into the TL:DR range, I guess I haven’t changed that much. I am a nurse, which I didn’t want to be until I was about 24. I went back to school at 26 to do just that.
My grandma was convinced I could be a TV star, but I told her no way was I spending the rest of my life inside a little box like that.
