When's the last time you did a genuine double-take?

I was driving to work the other day on quite a cold morning when I slowed down on approach to a roundabout, glanced right to make sure no traffic was coming, looked back and quickly glanced right again…wtf, does that woman have fox-ears?!? Yes, yes she does…

A young woman was standing waiting to cross and she was wearing some sort of woolen hat with with large fabric fox-ears sown on the top…it was quite cute looking actually, and the ‘what?’ look she gave me was amusing. Thankfully there weren’t any cars coming or the eventual result may not have been quite so entertaining, ‘Road traffic collision caused by furry hat’.

I’m aware of furries but I think that’s the first time I’ve seen one ‘in the wild’ as it were.

Looking back I think thats the first time I’ve genuinely done a double-take in some
time!

Anyone else?

This is weird; I saw someone in a store yesterday with the same sort of hat. Is it a new trend that’s passing this oldster by? Or do you live in Austin? And I too did a double-take.

Several years ago my mother and I parked on the main street downtown and got out of the car to walk to the corner, to her bank. I passed by a shop window, and suddenly thought “did I just see that?” so I stepped back to look again.

It was a new shop, a chocolate shop, and what I’d seen was the most amazing collection of caramel and chocolate covered apples! As soon as our bank business was done I went back.

Thankfully the shop is still there. It’s pretty hard for a small, family owned business of this type to make it, but it has. I was just there a couple of days ago to buy some holiday truffles.

This was at a roundabout at Antrim, Northern Ireland, so maybe its a global phenomenon among all the cool kids.

When they start wearing fabric animal tails as well as hats then I’ll really start to worry!

This was shortly after the election.
I was driving in my truck. I was laughing to myself because I was thinking about a pic I saw on MSNBC. It was a pic of Karl Rove and underneath the photo was a caption that read: “Ruh-Rove”.

I kept mumbling to myself ‘ruh-rove’ in Scooby Doo voice. (Yes I’m weird like that.) As I’m sitting at the intersection waiting for the light to turn green, I see a dude drive by with his van painted up EXACTLY like the Mystery Van in the Scooby Doo cartoons.

I couldn’t believe my eyes.

I was letting the kids have a “scavenge what you like for dinner” night because I’d made something way too challenging (Coraline would have sighed heavily and accused me of making a *recipe *again.)

So I was sitting next to my daughter. She was in a kitchen chair, with no food currently on the table in front of her, and no food in her hands. I glanced away for a split second, and when I looked back I saw her drawing two light brown, disc-shaped items up from her lap area, one in each hand. My head snapped fully back in her direction, and I said, “Did you just . . . take two pancakes out of your pockets?” She replied, “No, I just sat on my rolls.” She had gotten two soft dinner rolls from the bread drawer, taken them to her seat, sat on them till they were flattened, then started eating them.

S’true, kids can blow your mind.
