I’ve read of Democrats who claim they’ll move to New Zealand, the UK, Europe, etc if Trump wins. Where do Republicans say they’ll run to, if they can’t stand living in a Biden presidency?
On The Daily Show the other day, Jordan Klepper went to a Trump rally to talk to Trump supporters. One woman said she would not live in a socialist country so if Biden won, she might consider moving to Costa Rica.
There really aren’t any countries that are like their desires. Any country that goes down that path ends up being a failed state. They usually have a civil war, and things restart from there. Somalia of the 90’s would probably be their ideal.
What they want isn’t really possible. They want to live free from the consequence of their actions, while imposing their will on others. They don’t want to have taxes or regulations, but take for granted the social safety nets, the general safety, and the prosperity that those taxes and regulations permit.
They are children, demanding that they get to stay up late and eat ice cream and cookies. They don’t understand the idea of responsibility, they believe that personal responsibility is the end all be all of everything, and don’t consider any sort of responsibility to or from the community that they live in to be a valid thing.
We didn’t always live in cities, we didn’t always have agriculture and animal husbandry. People used to live in small family groups that hunted and gathered and preyed on each other. When people first started to settle down, there were those who stayed to the hills, who shunned the responsibilities of civilization, but who still were parasites upon those who worked together, raiding and stealing from them.
That’s who the Republicans are now. They are the hill people, refusing to accept the responsibilities of civilization, but demanding the benefits. They hate us because they have to. You cannot go into a town to kill, pillage, rape and burn if you don’t hate the villagers. And they cannot do the same to our country if they actually cared about it or its people. They have demonized and vilified those of us who work together for the common good to justify their destruction of our way of life and to take take take without giving anything in return.
They are anti-civilization. There is no country, no piece of land that they can live on that they will not spoil and destroy and go looking for more. There are no governments they are willing to follow, except their own. There is no country that they can live in and accept the requirements that they would have put on them.
There is no good that can come of the current Republican party. They will be the downfall of our society if they get their way, and unfortunately, while those of civilization relax when we believe that the wolves are not at the wall, the Republicans never relax until they have destroyed everything. They are the wolves inside the wall. Their hate is real. Their lust for power, for having benefit with not responsibility is real. We have learned that they cannot be defeated through civilized means, their hatred is too strong for that. They will resist any attempts to “tame” or “domesticate” them, and even vilify the very attempt.
Where that leaves us, I don’t know. But it certainly leaves us in a precarious position where nearly half the country hates and is ready to kill and take from the other half, with not a concern as to the future even of their own.
They certainly couldn’t tolerate highly evolved nations like Sweden, Norway, Japan, etc. I imagine that, loving the rich and powerful as well as the extreme right philosophy in general, they’d be more comfortable in a place like Russia or China.
Well, Poland just banned abortions but I don’t know if it meets their expectations in any other way.
Doubt it.
I’m thinking North Korea or Iran. Maybe Libya up until Gadhafi was deposed. Syria has quite a bit of what they are looking for.
Switzerland, perhaps? Jim Jeffries had a current events show on Comedy Central and in one episode he visited Switzerland to see how the country could have so many guns without the gun violence or mass shootings.
Turkey, Russia, North Korea, Hungary, those sorts of places. Lovely countries
Some conservatives make the excuse that since, for example, the Nordic countries are so homogenous (and small), many or most of the policies that work there won’t work in the US. So some of them might be okay with moving to those places, at least in theory.
I suspect Hungary and Poland would be the most congenial for many US conservatives. Not that those countries are likely to welcome random Americans of any political persuasion.
Are they as homogenous today? I thought the Nordic countries were more diverse than in previous decades, with thousands of refugees and other residents from other parts of the world.
It is easy to get a gun in Switzerland, but there are still more strict laws about who can have one, and where they can carry it, and how it has to be secured than here in the US.
Taxes seem a little higher there, but they are pretty low for Europe.
Abortion is legal for 12 weeks, and fairly loose restrictions on what medical necessities are required for after, so they’d be against that.
The have “registered partnerships” for same sex couples, and it looks like actual marriage is in the works.
Biggest hang-up would be the compulsory service and healthcare.
Of course, they have been getting less an less homogenous, especially places like Sweden, so in that sense they might not be attractive. Still might be attractive overall to a conservative, especially a more racist caucasian one (or at least if you exclude Sweden maybe).
unnecessary redundancy.
Heh. But even among conservatives, racism exists on a spectrum. Therefore, more racist, like compared to an average, was what I wanted to emphasize.
