Where are you vacationing this year?

Dollywood!

We’ve got a little bit of inheritance money coming, so we’re taking a weekend trip to Maine to go to the beach and the York Zoo. We’ll probably rent a van this time and take most of my wife’s family with us.

The only trip we have planned is… Galapagos! We’re going on a dive trip there in October and hope to see a whale shark, in addition to boobies. Blue-footed, that is. Plus sea lions.

We are not planning any travel at all this year – at least not for many months. This is highly unusual for us. My wife is going to be undergoing significant and costly infertility treatments. This is actually going to be our fourth try. Previous tries all failed at various stages and although we can’t prove it, she’s convinced that too much travelling had something to do with it. So this time we’re staying put, possibly for the duration of the (hopefully) pregnancy.

It is almost -40 with the windchill, and there were apparantly over 100 accidents on the Queensway (the main commute artery in Ottawa) within 1 and a half hours this morning due to black ice/people forgetting that they LIVE IN FREAKING CANADA!

I’m in Ocho Rios in 22 days, 2 hours, 34 minutes.

We already took our trip - we went on a cruise over Christmas. Other than that, it’s harder to plan anything since I’m in school and I need to work during the summers.

There are a couple of small possibilities, though.

My hubby will be in Madrid and/or England for one or two back-to-back business trips, and odds are, he’ll be there during my spring (mid-winter!) break. If my course load isn’t overwhelming and if we can afford it and if we have enough points to get a free/cheap flight and if…if…if, I might be able to join him for a few days. Unlikely, but there’s a chance. The only problem is that it’s a lot of flight hours and jet lag for a very short visit.

If that doesn’t pan out, then I’ll be visiting friends and family more-or-less locally (I owe a friend in Ottawa a visit).

Depending on when final exams end and my summer job starts, I might be able to go to PEI to visit my sister. Otherwise, we will do short weekend trips in the area, including an overnight or two in Québec city (as we have a gift certificate to a hotel there).

Anything else would be around next Christmas, and that’s way too far away to think about!

Three weeks (Jan. 29-Feb.21) taking in the sun, sand, and (relatively mild) surf in Barbados. Can’t wait. Every day the high is 30 (86F) plus or minus at most one degree. The ocean is glorious even in the rain.

I have a reservation to hike across the Grand Canyon in September.

I’m vaguely thinking of going to Belgium next month. Somewhere north anyway. I want to escape the heat of February.

We’re going on a cruise to Mexico next week. We’ll probably go to Canada this Summer as well.

We’re going to France for 3 weeks in late June to mid-July. Mostly southern France. We’re flying to Lyon, then by rail to Toulouse, Carcassonne, Nimes, Arles, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Marseilles, Nice and Monaco. Then up to Paris for 4 nights, including Bastille Day.

I just took my first solo international trip last Thanksgiving, and I highly recommend it. Spent eight days in Madrid/Toledo/Lisbon total with no itinerary to follow (except for the flight from Madrid to Lisbon) or people to consult before doing anything. Feel like taking a train to Toledo on a whim? No problem! Just walk down to Atoche station and enjoy the ride. I plan on one or two international trips this year. I definitely want to spend 15 days in Asia either during Thanksgiving or Christmas, probably Tokyo or Hong Kong, or maybe I’ll visit Beijing again and get to know the place better. I’d like to go on an eight day trip for Memorial Day or July 4th, but I haven’t found any good flights that leave late enough on Friday nights so I can catch one right after work. The best one I’ve found so far is to Lima, so maybe I’ll explore Machu Picchu and check out the beaches near the capital. Never been south of the equator, so this one’s a possibility. I’d rather go to Istanbul or Moscow, but the flights are either too expensive and/or at the wrong time.

Disneyland and Sea World (San Diego) this spring. No plans for summer yet, but since I have 6 weeks per year to burn I guess we’ll do something.

San Fran and then the Everest region of Nepal.

Just got back from San Francisco visiting friends, going out to Utah to the animal sanctuary this summer. I do both of those every year though, I’m still not sure if I’ll be able to make it overseas at some point. I’d love to go back to Eastern Europe again.

This year, I was thinking of vacationing in my apartment, with a stop at my parent’s house.

Being poor rules!

Vegas, several times. Then I think we will be heading up to Washington state for a week or so during the summer to visit family. If we can swing it, we’d like to go back to San Antonio next New Years.

Hawaii for a week. All expenses paid and not by me!!!

I’m staying in country this year, but the wife will be in the UK in April visiting a friend and bopping around. We’ve already been up in the Northeast this month, and we’ll probably hit some beaches in the South later this year, on Koh Samui and/or in Krabi province.

We’re taking an epic road trip through the Southwest after my husband finishes the bar. Hopefully. My in-laws are coming though and it’s making me cranky. I love them to pieces but they drive me crazy on trips. Fortunately though they’ll be in their own car.

Probably we will do a few weekend camping trips when he’s through with court in the spring, provided I’m not tied up with the job I applied for today (and hopefully will get). I want to go to Sequoia/King’s Canyon for my NPS schwag and maybe go to Big Sur again.
