We all know that Esprix’ three “Ask the Gay Guy!” threads were in GD. Recently, two “Ask the…” (well, not necessarily called that, but in the same vein) appeared in GQ. Manhattan noted that he’d allow these two threads to continue, so long as the questions were factual in nature, but that he “didn’t want to encourage a raft of ‘ask the’ threads.”
If I had a legitimate “Ask the…” thread, to which forum should it be posted? The rugby thread started by RugbyMan got me thinking about starting a similar thread about cricket, but I had second thoughts after Manhattan’s intervention. There’s not much I can do to prevent other posters from submitting “debate” or “flame” threads. So where should a thread like this be started.
Whatcha planning? “Ask the Yankee who nearly got trapped in the UK”?
If it’s lighthearted, I suggest MPSIMS. Remember, it is not a question in itself. You’re posting this expecting people to have questions. That’s why GQ isn’t the right place. GD? In most cases, no, unless you’re starting a “Ask the Existentialist” thread or something.
And in a wicked way, it’s also a reversed IMHO. So, MPSIMS or IMHO it is, if you ask me.
So where am I going to post my “Does Saqlain Mushtaq’s mystery ball delivered with an off-spinner’s action really turn from the leg?” question eh Duke?
picmr: even though I’m supposed to be away from the board by now (and working even though it’s my last day here at the Hall) I’ll break my fast for this one. I can assure you that I’ll post a cricket thread at some point after the 26th. (PS I’ve seen Saqqy’s “mystery” delivery when he was bowling for Surrey. I bowl off-spin and can actually do it myself, save for the fact it only turns a quarter-inch and it could pitch just about anywhere. I’ll explain all later.)
