In high school (many many years ago when the Earth was warmer and Florida was still under the ocean) I was friends with an exchange student from Japan. We renewed our friendship a few years ago via the Internet and she recently had her first baby (we’re late-30 somethings).
So… I’d love to send the baby some books by Beatrix Potter or Dr. Seuss as she’s never read either. I know that both have been translated into Japanese, but I’m not able to find any English language sites that list the Japanese translations. Does anybody have any suggestions?
www.kinokuniya.com is a Japanese bookstore chain with a few outlets in the US. Call them and they’ll help you select the right book, assuming it’s still available.
Try www.amazon.co.jp (there’s a link on the left of the homepage that says “shop in English”). I got many hits on Beatrix Potter, and about five hits on Seuss. The Dr. Seuss books are The cat in the hat, The Grinch who stole Christmas and Oh, the places you’ll go, plus two others, judging from the pictures. I assume they will deliver to any address, and do the gift-wrap thing (if it’s like amazon.com, .ca, .co.uk…)
