Chicago (aka Chicago Transit Authority) were my favorite band till Terry Kath died, if my memmory is correct, they used to have a tv show, kinda like sony and cher, variety type, in the 70’s. It didn’t last long, but I was wondering if anyone knows if these are for sale somewhere. I have tried many searches, but unfortuanetly zillions of things show up with Chicago in it, and I have been unsuccesful finding information to even prove the show really existed.
I think your memory may be playing tricks on you. I looked at a couple of their fan sites, and there’s no mention of a TV show, and I certainly don’t remember one (I was in college when Chicago first burst onto the scene, so I think I’d have remembered it). Add to that the fact that all during the early 70s, they toured between 200 and 300 days a year, which doesn’t leave much time to do a TV show.
There’s a pretty comprehensive fan site here, where you can get video and audio clips. There’s also the movie Electra Glide in Blue, in which the band members appeared in various roles.
I’ll do a little more hunting, and I’ll be back if I find something.
Thanks, I was in high school back then, and I distinctively remember them in tv shows doing some songs and variety type of things. Could be they were guests in a variety type show, but I could’ve sworn it was their show.
Hey! If I can’t find someone in this forum that remebers this show, I’ll take that as absolute proof that it didn’t exist.
I did search quite a few fan sites and found no mention of it.
The only TV guest spot listing on IMDb is for “Saturday Night Live” in 1979: Peter Cetera
have you tried the Band’s official site? www.chicagotheband.com? And possibly posting the question there?
The History of the bad area is huge, with lots O details. It seems they did have some TV specials, but no actual show, per se. Again, THEIR message baord would probably get you some die-hard fans that would have these.
Regardless, this question is more suited for cafe society as opposed to General questions.
And besides this post being better in Cafe Society, Frumpy Jones, it would also be better if you didn’t simply post a link that I already posted.
D’oh!
I hate when I do that…
Mea Culpa.
Thanks, I’ll try their message board.
As a kid who watched way too much TV in the 1970s, I’m hard-pressed to remember any TV show that Chicago headlined.
In the 1970s, Chicago was likely TOO famous to get a TV show. Once you got a TV variety show, you were sort of on your way out.
Although I’m not sure how you would consider the Starland Vocal Band or Pink Lady.
I found this:
**Finally, “Satin Doll” recorded live on Chicagos 1974 New Years Eve television special unfortunately isnt anything special. The group sounds like a typical wedding band pulling off a stale version of this Ellington classic. **
That may be what I remember, a New Years special
I think David Clayton Thomas of Blood Sweat and Tears had a series on Canadian TV one summer. Close enough?
