Preferrably in NYC, but a company on the net which delivers to NYC works well too. I need to score a couch or two, and all the stores I have found in Manhattan seem pretty interested in raping me with a nice robbery for desert. Are there any reasonably priced furniture stores? Or am I doomed to either eat a big bill or sit on the floor?
Depending on your lifestyle (or future lifestyle)if you don’t plan on having a bunch of little ingrate rugrats spillin’ shit all over your stuff, spend the extra few bucks and get the good stuff. I went to a custom shop and got a couch and chair that are guaranteed FOREVER. The seams will be re-sewn if necessary, the frame will never break, the springs will never spring, the stuffing will never shift or lump, and I had it treated against staining.
Or…
Go to Ikea. Cheap, looks good, won’t last forever.
On 23rd street somewhat west of Lexington (sorry I can’t recall exactly where, but its on the north side of the street) there is a “high class” thrift shop with some really nice sofas quite reasonably priced. I mean in the $100-$125 range for a clean, rather fashionable couch in good repair. They also have some quite stylish clothes at good prices (I bought a suit for $30) but more stuff for the ladies than the gents.
Its a fundraiser for some sort of very worthy charity so you can even feel good about it.
EchoKitty, I think I got my couch and loveseat at the same place. I LOVE it! So far I’ve been able to remove (with little effort), every single stain my family has been able to produce including blood and poop.
Check out any of the furniture companies based around High Point, NC. You can order from their discount outlets here in High Point, Greensboro, Thomasville, or other little towns around here, and they’ll ship worldwide. We went to a discount outlet and got a living room suite that retails for nearly $4500 for $1600.
