Thanks!
What do you mean by TOS? Terms of service?
Must be, so here:
https://boards.straightdope.com/tos
Terms of Service.
Getting some advice (here and elsewhere) that my phone book thread may be a story of value. Would like to read the TOS… or ‘end user agreement’ or whatever… before continuing. Thanks!
It looks like a Boiler Plate Terms of Service that hasn’t been updated yet.
I can’t find our old one that we signed up under.
Ahhhh, thanks! I see the edit now. Appreciate it!
Come to think about it, is there a Discourse TOS to which we agreed as well?
Is this a question for… @discobot?
Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help
.
@discobot which was better, TOS or TNG?
The old registration agreement can still be found in Bone’s rules thread:
ETA:
“All postings and other material on the SDMB are copyrighted by STM. Republication of material appearing on the SDMB without express written permission of STM is prohibited, except that users retain the right to republish their own work. By posting on this board you grant STM and its successors and assigns a nonexclusive irrevocable right to reuse your posting in any manner it or they see fit without notice or compensation to you.”

Thank you Max_S, very helpful.
If I’m reading that right, I can use my own posts and republish them whenever, wherever, and however I want, including for profit and without credit or citation, without consulting or notifying “STM”, and if I do so, I don’t owe “STM” anything. (Side question - what is “STM” - Sun Times Media, the old owner of the 'Dope?)
On the flip side, “STM” can also use my posts and republish them whenever, wherever, and however they want, without consulting or notifying me, and if they do, they won’t owe me anything.
However, I cannot use anything anyone else posts, without the express written permission of “STM”.
Is that right?
I am not a lawyer.
STM is defined earlier in the contract as “Sun-Times Media, LLC”.
Regarding the rest, even with the disclaimer, I am not confident enough in my response to answer your question.

Sorry! I was trying to reference your post to ask an open question to the thread, not specifically to you, and bungled the “Reply” function.
No need to apologize! However, I want to point out that STM still owns the 'Dope. You can find the email for a certain rmcdonald at the bottom of every webpage (“Contact Us”), maybe he can answer any questions you have about copyright access.

That clown!?
Probably not Ronald McDonald.
