Where can I get a 'mad scientist' lab coat?

I’ve always wanted a lab coat like this. Where can I get one?

From my link, obviously. But I’m not entirely sure that is an article of apparel, I don’t know what L$ is, and US$1.16 doesn’t sound right. Heck, that’s too low if they were made of paper!

Where can I get such a smock (and gloves), that could actually be used in a lab instead of just a costume? (I like my costumes to be ‘real’.)

That link goes to Second Life, the virtual world. You pay other people in virtual money to generate cool things for your avatar. It’s cheap because it’s software.

In the real world, there are nurse’s supply stores and medical supplies stores everywhere. I’m pretty sure they have lab coats.

I also have a memory of the bookstore at my local medical school having some of this stuff.

Here ya go. It includes the lab coat and black gloves and belt.

Ordinary white laboratory coats (much shorter, and without the black buttons) can be had for around $5 on Amazon.

I overlooked that you said “not a costume.” I doubt you can get a lab coat like that because the one depicted is not practical. You might be able to get an extra length coat, but ones with black buttons like that are probably not sold, because the buttons would get in the way and hang up on things.

Ah. Video game. No time for those, so I didn’t know that.

I went with roomie when she was shopping for new scrubs. The lab coats there were short and had collars – pretty much what you’d see in any hospital. I’m going for the ‘mad scientist’ look

That looks pretty close. Not quite, but close. Thanks.

Just Lab Coats (dot com) ?

I’m going for more the mad scientist/steampunk look.

Ahhh I feel your pain. I wear lab coats every day, and have purchased several throughout my life, yet I am unable to complete my Dr. Horrible costume for lack of an appropriate lab coat.

Not a video game, a virtual world. Different thing that I also do neither of.

So you want something that’s only used as a costume but you want a real one? Good luck with that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep. I’m funny that way. (e.g., my USN ‘pilot costume’ is actual USN-issue flight gear.)

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the recent popularity of that particular style of lab coat can be traced directly to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog, and I’m willing to bet that costume was custom-made, not purchased from someplace like Carolina Biological.

Oddly, while I’m aware of DHSALB, I’ve never read it.

How about this?

For reference, the type of lab coat Johnny L.A. is looking for is called a Howie or a Lancer coat. They’re not used much in labs in the USA, which is why they only turn up as a costume piece. But if you check European scientific supply, you find them. Try here, or here, or this google search.

When I saw that thread title, I immediately thought of this recent xkcd comic.

How about a chef’s coat?

When my Inner Mad Scientist goes shopping, she heads for American Science & Surplus first. They are, as the name implies, surplus dealers, which means that they might or might not have a particular item in stock. But if they have an item, it’s insanely cheap.

Here are some Mad Scientist tshirts, for when you are not working with dangerous substances and want a more casual outfit.

That looks just about right. Thanks.

And it’s a costume, from an “online Halloween store.” Long as we get that straight.

Here’s a genuine non-costume lab coat I found on eBay.
You can replace the large white buttons with large black buttons.
