I’m trying to obtain a copy of one of Danny Kaye’s movies, “Merry Andrew.” It came out in 1958; I saw it in my little hometown sometime about then or maybe later (I have no idea how long after release a town of 2,000 population had to wait for a movie back when theaters showed only one movie at a time.) Anyway, I saw the movie only once, when I was very young, I was absolutely captivated by it. You’d think, in this age of Netflix, Blockbuster and hundreds of satellite movie channels, I’d have seen it again. But no, it remains a hazy memory made only slightly clearer by Wikipedia and IMDB.
The movie isn’t available through Netflix or Blockbuster, and I’ve already tried eBay and Amazon.com. If anybody has any ideas where I can buy/rent/borrow this movie, I’d appreciate it. I’ve tried to explain to Razorette just how touchingly funny this movie is in spite of its obvious formula, but I can’t find it anywyhere. Any ideas?
That may not be possible. As far as I can see, it has not been published on videocassette, videodisc or DVD. I can only find one record for it in WorldCat, which is for a copy on film held at an academic library that specialises in film studies. I suspect they won’t let their unique copy out on inter-library loan.
Until it comes out on DVD, I suspect that the only way to get your hands on a copy is through a film distributor.
