Where can I get some chemical stipper?

Back when I used to powder coat stuff, while prepping metal we would always put the metal in a tank overnight that would basically strip all the paint, oils and other gunk off the metal so it could be powder coated. It was always done very quickly too. Anybody know what that stuff is called? Or where I can buy it?

Thanks.

That would probably have been carbon tetrachloride. I believe it’s banned these days, but acetone ought to do a similar job.

Here’s a page that might be relevant: http://www.unido.org/doc/9419

Alternatively it might have been phosphoric acid. Here’s a page that discusses (well, tries to sell, at any rate) “Plaforization”, which is specifically for powder coat prepping. http://www.pfonline.com/articles/clinics/1002cl_clean1.html

Methylene chloride paint stripper is still available at hardware stores. A gallon container costs ~$25.

Look for Zip Strip, any other brands as long as it has Methelyne Chloride in it will do.
