Harmony Korine wrote the script for Kids when he was 18, which was promptly made into a huge movie. He’s since gone on to direct several highly acclaimed art films and carries a massive amount of cred in the modern film scene.
This simply does not happen in the world of film, where there’s so much money involved and so many aspiring writers, directors, and actors out there that even if an 18-year-old kid wrote a great treatment and script, the chances of that getting to the right people and then getting made are next to nil.
So what’s his connection? He has to really be Spielberg’s nephew, Coppola’s third cousin, Rebecca DeMornay’s godson, or something. Anyone I’ve asked this just says, “i dunno, he’s just good.” That’s not an answer - he has to have had some connection that he cashed in.
