I think it was the Grimm episode for me.
Something Positive webcomic about 13 years ago.
I believe it was Johnny LA that posted about it a couple of years ago and I then googled it. After that I had lots of Krampus ads from Amazon. It was spooky!
I read about it a few weeks ago in a thread right here on the SDMB: Ever receive NOTHING for Christmas as a child?. The post is 5 years old, but I don’t remember seeing it until the latest resurrection of the thread about 3 weeks ago.
As a teen, from friends.
I saw a cartoon on Facebook last night - that’s the first I heard of it.
I wrote a review for a book of old German Christmas postcards about it a few years ago.
I read about Krampus 'way back when I was a kid, reading about Christmas customs around the world.
Here in Salem, MA last weekend I saw two people dressed as Krampus. One was in a furry suit, with cloven hooves and with a (plastic) baby in a cauldron slung over its shoulder. It was talking with two kids who didn’t seem, sat all scared.
I think it was in the computer game Terraria. There’s an enemy called Krampus during the Frost Moon event.
I learned about the Krampus when I was trying to find a movie I’d seen Adam Scott in on IMDB, and saw “Krampus” listed as an upcoming project. That guy makes weird choices on which movies he’s in.
I think I first saw images of him in Monte Beauchamp’s Blab magazine.
German class, 1984. Also heard about Knecht Ruprecht at the same time.
Those Germans, they know how to keep kids in line.
Back in the 1970s, in a book of Folklore.
First heard of Krampus on the 2013 Christmas episode of the NBC supernatural drama Grimm.
Yep – this is the one.
The first time I’m aware of being exposed to Krampus was in Season 3 of Supernatural, episode 8, “A Very Supernatural Christmas” in 2007.
I had never heard the word until a commercial for Conan O’brien’s show last night
Rare Exports.
For me it was either that or the Krampus episode of the league. Although I think I was aware of “Evil Santa” well before that, just not the name.
The Office final season had Krampus featured when Dwight got to plan the Christmas party.
