You’re all missing the big picture here: dogface was banned in that other thread, which surely is a victory over ignorance that this message board can be proud of. Especially since this particular poster did not seem to be particualrly conservative or liberal in his viewpoint. The only side he took with any consistency was that of rampant stupidity.

He is a prime example of the unreasoning hatred that is spreading everywhere. There are many others, as well: people from all nations who are nationalistic, those who perceive threats from others based on their place of residence, people that feel that a whole class of people are responsible for the actions of misguided individuals. This applies all over- the right and left wing extremists, anarchists, super-patriots, and racists of the world are not limited to any one country, region, religion, or political party.
If Aldebaran can see that everyone does not deserve punishment or retribution for the few troublemakers, if he can see that peace starts from within, then we have truly fought Ignorance and won.
If I’m talking out of my ass, then the world has a bigger problem than I thought.

The moderation since becoming a pay-to-post site has been a disappointment-this “zero tolerance” bullshit isn’t necessary, and isn’t effective. Just like all of the “zero tolerance” policies for drinking, drug use and celibacy that high schoolers must deal with…doesn’t work there, and won’t work here.
I see no threat, and if what Salaami said was a threat, most of us have been guilty of the same thing and not punished or admonished the same.
But that’s just one guy’s opinion.

Just a couple of thoughts, assuming that you are still reading this thread. While I think that I agree that you probably did not make a direct threat, I find that the tone of a lot of what you say has a threatening quality to it. When you say things like:

Moreover, your take on our culture seems to be rather monolithic in that you seem to not be willing to see any good in us at all. Couple that with your posting style, and the way that you seem unwilling to debate in good faith or to even consider changing your mind about anything and you basically have a recipe for disaster.
I have said this in other threads, and I will say it again. I think that we could probably learn a lot from each other. It really is a shame that you seem to have such towering contempt for us. See, as I see it, the Arab and the Western worlds are in conflict right now. If we don’t all do what we can to promote understanding of each other, this will only get worse. Time and time again, I have seen folks try to engage you, ask you questions and get either ignored or shot down. You simply are not doing your part.
Just so nobody thinks I was making “hate speech” in this zero tolerance environment, let me be clear that it was simply a take on A’s “Salaam.A” signature and not meant as any sort of slur.
I cannot believe that I felt the need to clarify a post in the Pit lest I get raked over the coals or a warning from the mods…A sad day indeed.

- Mail Lynn Bodoni and present your case to her directly without hysterics and without sarcasm. I’m sure she and you can come to some understanding as to what her concerns are, and what your rebuttal is.
Speaking only as an observer of events here over the last 4 years - communicating with the Staff directly, honestly, and calmly as fellow human beings and with mutual respect often yields satisfactory results for both sides. Posting grandstanding “Fight the man! Fight the power! Set the wires on fire!” threads in the Pit typically does not result in a positive outcome - unless drawing attention to yourself is the end game, I suppose.
I’m at work right now, and cannot reply at length at this time. If this thread is still open by then, tonight I will dig out all the instances I know of where Alde has either overtly or implied physical violence against another poster (at least three times in the past year, by my count) and post links to them here.
Has he ever said, “die you scum US’er” to poster X? No, not in so many words. But he most certainly has, by reasonable interpration, threatened other posters in GD.
Um, no. We are not discussing his past history. This is about the particular post which prompted the particular warning. How do you interpret that post as “wishing death”?
You’re not, but it does.
I think Aldebaran’s “threat” comes under the “too stupid to be taken seriously” category, but I have no idea of his past history with the mods.

I was not planning to post on this thread anymore, nor on any other on this message board until I have answer from Lynn Bodoni. Yet since you seem to accuse me of intentions that are not even remotely there I felt it needed to post a further clarification:

Since I’m threatened to be banned, I wanted to create for myself the occasion to thank the other members and to wish them the best, before I am unable to do so.
I do not interact with people for almost a year and then stop that interaction without even thanking them for their time and for the interesting discussions. That is the summum of rudiness to me.
If I would have been banned before I could made this thread, I certainly would have asked the Staff to post this message for me. Yet as I have doubts that they would actually be prepared to do that, I took the given oocasion to do it myself.

- I have not interpreted his psot as wishing death on a specific poster, and I said as much. Nevertheless, he has a long-standing pattern of bullying and making veiled threats against posters he disagrees with, and I personally believe the ruling I mentioned applies here. I will post nothing further to this thread till tonight.
I’ve never seen Aldebaran make any threats and I think that the overreaction of some people to a comment that he would fight back if his country was attacked is just a little disingenuous.
Aldebaran has made threats in the past and been warned by Lynn about it. IIRC, one in particular, it was a pit thread about Alde were someone made a disparaging remark about Alde’s parentage and his response was well outside the rules.

Um, not quite. IIRC it was his mother that was/is Western and his Father that was/is of the Middle East. He has stated in many threads that he is of dual culture. It is to that duality of culture and the perspective that it offers to which I referred. That said, I have no idea what his specific citizenship is as he has been most coy about that.
