Saw a bumper sticker in college: “I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.” The word “lobotomy” is just funny to me.
boy? I don’t know. lobotomyman might have been better; sounds like a super hero with a mighty ice pick or something. I guess I’m the “sidekick,” Robin to someone else’s Batman.
I was interested in the old *Krazy Kat * cartoon when I signed onto the board so whimsically chose the Kat’s nemesis rodent. He, like I, throws soft bricks at folks from time to time, but only as a form of endearment. Love all y’all but it’s “its” to show possession, in violation of the general rule, not “it’s” which means “it is”.
When I joined up here, I was an independent computer consultant. I flew out to the client’s site on Sunday evening, worked 5 days and flew back home on friday evening. So, since my life was nothing but a plane commute, I thought “live on an airplane” was pretty appropriate. I just shortened it to LiveOnAPlane.
I don’t live on them any more, but still travel enough for it to be pretty much on target. Since my life in the Marshall Islands lasted a little short of 2 years, I am glad I didn’t change it to LiveOnAnAtoll.
My best buddy FourPaws told me or showed me this site. When it came time to pick a user name, I had gone through a divorce and felt reborn in a way. Yet at the same time, I felt like I had no clue who I was and where I was going. So I came up with BrknButterfly.
Feeling broken and reborn leaves a girl feeling really confused.
Mine is the name of a character in one of my favorite webcomics, Schlock Mercenary; it’s ‘Red Shirt’ backwards and refers to his tendency to get dismembered. He spends a fair amount of time with nothing left but his head. As for why him in particular; his was the first name I came up with that wasn’t taken.
My nom de doper is from the Bible. When I originally signed up, I wanted to be Phil413 (from Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” (my Life Verse). I’m not sure how tired I was when I typed my application to be a doper so that a type turned Phil413 into Phil417.
As I understand it, back in the early centuries AD, you were considered important if you published…the more you published, the more important you were (sound familiar?). Philippians 4:17 says in effect that the author wishes the recepient of the epistle be lifted up more than the writer. To me, this is basic SD philosopy. Works for me.
From Rabelais’ Gargantua and Pantagruel that was lying on my desk when I had to come up with a username. On second thought I should have gone for Gargantua which is more memorable and probably a better username, even though Panurge is the more interesting character.
I got it from a character who bumbled his way through World War Two in a book by Thomas Pynchon: Tyrone Slothrop. The book is “Gravity’s Rainbow”. I figured everyone knew this already.
Maybe the next such thread should be titled something like: “Where do people get their SDMB user names from ? . . . Aaaand, T. Slothrop, please don’t bother answering.”
Mine’s pretty obvious; I have five dogs, which are a major part of my life. I have four tattoos of their actual paws (the first four dogs I’ve had as companions) tattooed; one of each arm and one on each leg. So, FourPaws for, well – dog having four paws, and FourPaws for the four paw prints tattooed on me.
