I’m not even as imaginative as you (OP), and constructed mine from aspects of my name, the initials.
Huge Radiohead fan so I was trying to incorporate that somehow.
Plus I liked the generic internet identity that Kid_A represents.
Well, mine is not nearly as exciting - but about 5 years ago I was addicted to The Sims and finally bought the online game. I had never been an online gamer, had no idea what was cool - and had to choose my first character name. Aack! The pressure!
So I chose Melody Harmonius because I was in to music and thought it sounded plausible. Little did I realize that no one on TSO would ever ask me why I picked my name.
I realized too late I had mistyped Harmonious, and as an english major, it has stuck in my craw, but I digress.
I made the requisite hotmail accounts to go with the moniker, and soon just adopted it for everywhere else. After five years, I’m actually just as comfortable being called “Mel” as my real name and don’t even blink. Of course, I sometimes have to remember to tell people that’s not my real name before we meet in person . . .
I love tequila, and tequila sunrise just sounds like an awesomely optimistic name.
Mange Tout means ‘eat all’ in French. I’m not French, but I like to eat lots of different things.
I like Bruce Campbell, and I liked his character Autolycus on the show Xena. I played a thief on the online game Final Fantasy XI with the same user name. Aspects of his personality bleed onto my online persona.
I was trying to create a name for my jewelry business, and because of my German ancestry, I came up with this word, which could be translated as “cutie-pie”, or something cute and adorable. Not me. My jewelry. But the utter unwieldyness of the word, as with many German words, stuck with me.
I’m King o’ the Cats.
From a French graphic novel. I’ve always fancied myself the fool in the romantic sense, on the edge of oblivion chasing whatever strikes my fancy at that current moment, the soul in search of experience and wisdom (and often tripping over the latter).
Hey, boss. How’re the crew doing? Place looks busy tonight. Is, uh, Sister Clamp around?
Yeah, I took my name from the same series of books. While Khadaji was the main character and an all around admirable guy, he was a little too intense for me to relate to well enough to use for a handle. The Sleel character, on the other hand, had more than a little in common with me. I’m a little too arrogant sometimes, but almost as good as I think I am. I’m more than a bit of a horndog. I have a sensitive side that I don’t let out very often. My family and I didn’t always relate to each other very well. I’ve done martial arts for a long time, and (this is based on a later book) the first time I picked up a sword it felt natural in my hands.
If I were to pick a name now, I probably wouldn’t pick the same one because I’ve got quite a different outlook on life than I did then. I’ve got much less in common with Sleel than I used to.
You really don’t want to know…
The men in my family who aren’t automatically nicknamed Sheriff usually end up being Nott. The rest is a pun on JF Kennedy’s inaugural speech. “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” So ask me anything.
Atomic Dog
What can I say? I’m a big George Clinton fan.
I’m a baaaaaaad boy.
What??? I always thought you named yourself after the pea. You are English aren’t you? How can you be so French?
I used to do an excellent Louis Armstrong imitation.
At the time I was playing World of Warcraft and I was in a large guild and I hung out with the goofball crowd and we’d call each other asshats and other terms of endearment so I created a female character named Tahssa, because it sounded feminine, and that is the character I was actively playing when I signed up for the dope.
Got mine from the ‘word of the day’ alert. Fits me well.
And for the LAST time - pixelated is NOT the same thing! =)
