In Cafe Society, because it’s moderately “entertainment?”
In IMHO? MPSIMS?
Just curious.

I have the same question about cooking threads. What about ones that have factual answers vs those seeking opinions? All in the Cafe? Some in GQ; some in IMHO?
I’ve only ever seen threads about sport in either IMHO, MPSIMS – or, if it’s a question with th’ ol’ clear factual answer, GQ. They could be in Cafe Society … after all, while not part of what would usually be terms “arts and entertainment”, sport is the latter for many.
As for recipe threads – I’ve seen them almost always yanked from GQ to Cafe – I’m not all that sure why.
Cooking - has been deemed an art form at the SDMB and so belongs in Café Society. All because Ukulele Ike likes to cook I guess.
Sports - not an art form, since those Harvard people (again referring to Mr. Ike) wouldn’t know a football if it hit them in the head.
Fight fiercely, Harvard!
Fight, fight, fight!
Impress them with our prowess, do!
Oh, fellows! Do not let the crimson down,
Be of stout heart and true!
Come on, chaps!
Fight for Harvard’s glorious name,
Won’t it be peachy if we win the game?
{Cafe Society Moderator hat ON}
A “How do you make chili con carne?” thread would go into the Cafe, as we all know that fixing the good stuff is an art form. Besides, have you ever tasted Czarcasm’s cooking? Yike.
“Why is a serrano chile more spicy than a poblano?” is GQ stuff.
“Chili con carne! Who eats that crap?” would be the Pit.
“I had a bowl of chili today, and boy was it good” is for MPSIMS, unless you intend to take it out of the path of the mundane and into a chili-making discussion.
As for sports…this is a bit of a toss-up, because I don’t think any one forum has made a claim. Use your discretion, according to the standards outlined above.
“Who would win…the 1947 Dodgers against the 1925 Yankees” sounds like a poll, and would go to IMHO. “Who caught that famous fly ball in the 1952 series?” is GQ. “Lou Gehrig sucks and so does his disease” is the Pit.
Threads about sports figures who qualify as entertainment notables, like that basketball player who dyes his hair and wears dresses and marries celebrities, could conceivably go in the Cafe.
{Mod hat off}
I don’t get that, though, about “different kinds of sports threads” going in different forums. After all, any polls, queries, factual questions about Arts and Entertainment (barring, of course, “I think The Matrix Reloaded sux!” kind of threads) go in Cafe Society. Could not the same be true for sports threads?
No, since the Cafe Society moderators have decided that sports are not within their purview.
