Where should a short-term sports question be posted? Example: the Boston RedSox “bullpen by committee”, a hot topic today (April 2003), but basically an opinion forum that will be obsolete in a month or two.
We have “Cafe Society” for arts and entertainment. Do the sports people go to IMHO ?
I have started my sports threads in Cafe Society under the belief that sports falls under the definition of “entertainment”.
From what I can tell about Board management, the fact that the thread deals with entertainment trumps the concept that the thread is a poll.
On the other hand, I recall seeing a statement that the Cafe Society mods don’t like sports threads in that forum. Sorry, no cite, it’s just a vague recollection so I could be wrong.
I guess I’d put really short term stuff in MPSIMS, since it’ll get buried on the back pages in short order anyway.
Now that you mention it, I’d like a ruling on this too.
Thanks - After surveying all the boards, I’ve noticed that short-term sports questions are not extremely popular on the SD, but when I found one recently in GQ , it irked me. And no moderator has moved it, probably because its such a fluke question. I guess the sports fans have found a more suitable forum than the SD. 
PS: I’m still lobbying for a separate category for “Computer Technical Support”. Such a clear-cut designation that would clear out 10% of GQ questions that I always skip! “GQ” should always be for “Cecil Adams Book Type Questions” ! ! ! ! ! !
Any question with a factual answer can go into GQ – though the mods. there would probably prefer something that will probably generate debate going into GD or IMHO instead.
Anything that seeks opinions on a “de gustibus” sort of question would go into IMHO.
General discussion on what it is you happen to be interested in goes in MPSIMS – unless it pisses you off that somebody’s doing X, in which case the Pit is the proper place to vent about it.
If your question is “how does the Red Sox bullpen by committee system work?”, GQ – if it’s “what’s your view of the effectiveness of the RS BbC system?”, IMHO – if it’s “Those idiots are trying to choose relievers by a popularity contest, not by pitcher effectiveness,” the Pit – and, of course, “Is God still punishing the Red Sox for selling Ruth to New York?” ;), Great Debates is the proper forum.
It ALWAYS pisses Me off when someone “does X”.
