Where does one obtain campaign signs?

I’d like to put up a Kerry/Edwards sign in my yard for this election, but don’t know where to get one. Anyone know?

(I live in Pittsburgh, if that matters)

Thanks!

You have to pay to support a candidate??? I realize that the money goes to his campaign, but goddamn! I’ll just steal one from someone else’s yard!

Steal one illegally placed in the public right-of-way instead. Don’t go stealing signs from your neighbors.

So if you stopped in at the local campaign office, they would charge you for a sign?

Call or visit your local campaign office. You shouldn’t have to pay for a sign.

The campaign number in Pittsburgh is 412-443-0983.

Our last house was on a very main road. They went door to door asking to put signs in my yard!

I wouldn’t dare! I was just sayin’ is all. It does kinda cheese me that you’d have to pay for a sign, though. Honest, I’m a good girl

Mr. Moto where do I find the number for my local campaign office?

The easiest thing to do would be to contact your local Republican or Democratic parties. They’ll get a sign to you, or tell you who to call or go to.

I must say: Mr. Moto, real gentleman. We know that he’s no fan of John Kerry, yet he’s so helpful as to help someone find a yard sign for a political opponent. He even goes so far as to provide a local phone number for Kerry’s Pittsburgh office.

Who says civility is dead? This is what I call changing the tone in Washington.

Thanks, Mr. Moto!

Ravenman- Mr. Moto is indeed a good guy.

I just meant that, generally, any signs you see in the median or the like are illegally-placed signs and the local authority will take them down and toss them. So it’s better and easier to grab one of those. Though I still can’t imagine having to pay for a sign. It seems to me that that would completely contradict the whole idea of grassroots politics.

I just called my local Dem office & they won’t have any Kerry signs till the end of next week. I asked if they were free, and the gal said that they ask for a donation. $4 for the signs with the wire posts, $3 for without the posts. But she did say it was my choice to donate. Hmmm… I don’t like the idea of having to pay to advertise anyone’s campaign, my vote should be payment enough.

I haven’t noticed any campaign signs where they shouldn’t be, but it’s still early in the game, and I expect that they’ll be everywhere closer to election time.

$3-$4 seems high. I think I remember getting a sign, a bumpersticker and two buttons for a dollar when Jerry Brown was running for president. (They might actually have been free, because I went to see him at a personal appearance.) Good god! I just realised that was 12 years ago. Pass me my walker please! Egads!

You all embarass me.

I’m a decent guy, but a little bit of a practical joker. I posted a number for George Bush’s campaign.

Hey, I didn’t specify which local campaign office it was, right? :smack:

Anyway, the Allegheny County Democratic Committee can be reached at 412-562-9400. Any union hall should be able to get you a sign as well.

All other information I gave, about local campaign resources, is fully accurate.

I’ve never been charged for a campaign sign - occasionally asked for a donation if I wanted one with the post in it (I guess the wood costs money) but the signs themselves - the candidates staffs trip over themselves to hand them out.

:o

I’ve never gotten a yard sign free. Most campaign offices will charge a few dollars to cover the cost of the wood or wire. The actual signs were free, if I wanted one to put in my window.

Guin, if you wanna engage in a bit of fun, get a Bush yard sign and, um, modify it to suit your own message. I did that with a Bush sticker that I pinned to my backpack. Republicans and people who don’t get it give me weird looks, but Democrats and Kerry supporters give me high-fives and smile their approval. The way I see it, the Bush campaign is swimming in the Benjamins. They can afford to give up a yard sign or two…

Robin

Ooh, thanks for all the tips. The one site-the Dem Store? said they were 3 bucks, including frame, so I’ll probably go there.

Hmmmm…that’s a very good idea, Robyn. Except I’d have to thieve one from somewhere-I ain’t giving one red penny to the Bush campaign.
