Where in the world is David Bowie?

I’m looking to see if David Bowie has a new album scheduled, since the last one was so long ago, but I have found nothing, and his own message board is not accessible without paying over $60.

He’s probably lying on top of a gigantic pile of money and lighting cigarettes with hundred-dollar bills.

He’s busy running the Guild of Calamitous Intent. That and cleaning up the mess left by the Phantom Limb’s attempted takeover will surely delay any planned albums.

No, no… He’s gone into sell-side finance. Not content to simply manage his assets for future growth (buy-side), he’s gone and packaged himself as financial security, selling off portions of his cashflow as interest on a 55 million dollar bond float and using his music catalog as the collateral.

You think I’m kidding? I’m not. Bowie Bonds are, or were real (they were 10-year bonds issued in 1997, so I guess they’ve all matured by now).

Bowie has slowed down a bit since his heart attack in 2004, although he has released yet another compilation album and done duets and backing vocals with a variety of other musicians done several one-off performances, voice-acting, and a principal role in The Prestige, I haven’t heard any word of an upcoming tour or CD of new material.

Be fair. The guy was on the edge of what, three? Four? Anyway, several major musical movements. And went broke once or twice, and had too many drugs and too much sex (apparently, there is such a thing). He’s slowed down a bit. Let the man rest.

Chasing after Carmen Sandiego?

I cannot read the thread title without Rockapella singing along in my head.

He’s not in the world. He’s in space.

I suppose if any rock stars should be allowed to rest on their big, fat, wealthy laurels, Mr Bowie should be one of them. I’ve seen him live twice, so I’ll die relatively happy.

He also has a very young daughter so I would imagine he’s having a lot of fun playing daddy.

Have you seen his wife? I’m sure he’s have a lot of fun playing hubby.

He’s judging walk-offs.

He appeared as a guest on David Gilmour’s On an Island tour.

I read an interview with him a while ago in which he said that he really never liked performing. He liked writing the songs, when he did that, and really enjoyed creating characters and themes for his tours, but the actual night-after-night performances were not something he enjoyed much at all. He felt like at that point, he was done with it and wanted to be on to the next thing. Which makes total sense if you think of it as art rather than performance. I’m a visual artist and I wouldn’t be too keen on executing the same piece over and over. I’ve got too many new exciting ideas waiting to come out.

It’s interesting you say that. When he performs Arnold Lane with Gilmour he is obviously both nervous about performing the song in front of a heap of Pink Floyd fans and overwhelmed by the great reception he gets.

I stand corrected!

Huh. And I thought he was just busy with his infant abduction services and running his vast goblin kingdom.

He did a great bit on “Extras”, the Ricky Gervaise cable series.

It’s a walk-off! . . . it’s a walk-off . . .
