Sometime last year stevia finally got GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status from the FDA, and towards the end of the year, Coca-Cola announced that it would be making Coke with stevia. I noticed that Vitamin Water (owned by Coke, if I’m not mistaken?) is now selling a stevia-sweetened product, but I haven’t heard anything else at all about Coke with stevia. Has anyone?
Nope, haven’t heard a thing.
And I’m still hoping Diet Coke with Splenda makes a comeback. That was about the best tasting diet cola I’ve ever had. But it made a brief splash a few years ago, then virtually disappeared.
I just tried a Vitamin Water with stevia because I cut soda and juice out of my diet, and I hate artificial sweeteners. I’ve got to say . . . it’s pretty damn good. It does have 3 grams of sugar in it but that’s negligible as far as I’m concerned. If the Coke tastes that good, I can’t wait, because damnit it’s only been 2 weeks and I miss Coke.
Sounds like your local bottler has decided not to make it, unfortunately. In my region, it’s readily available in 12-pack cans at all of the supercenter and supermarket chains… which is much wider distribution it had at launch, when it was a Wal-Mart exclusive. But, then again, Tab is also readily available here, so my region might be a hold-out for fading diet soda.
I haven’t seen it either. I knew it’s supposed to come out, so I’ve been watching. I’m in Wisconsin.
The Vitamin Water doesn’t actually advertise that it has stevia in it, you have to read the ingredients. It’s the one that says “10 Calories per Serving” and has a 10 printed on top of the lid. There are only 3 flavors (that I’ve seen) at the moment.
I’m looking for the soda with the stevia. Coke and the other companies of course all have there own brand name for the stevia sweetener they have come up with.
I read that it was going to be called Truvia, but on the Vitaman Water (owned by Coke) bottle, it doesn’t say that. It just says stevia.
